2013 BMW 6-Series

bmw-650i

Model Update

Sweet looks and greater engine power that blissfully sends you back into the sport-leather seats are some of the reasons why you will want to be driving the new BMW 6 Series. The car’s awesome touring capability makes the latest 6 Series one that is very special. Now longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model, you really have a machine that has fantastic presence on the road. 2+2 and practicality? Yes…460 litres of luggage space is very handy.

Featuring an eight-speaker audio system, navigation with voice feedback, Voice Command, an iDrive multimedia system and Real Time Traffic Information, the BMW 6 Series range is also very luxurious. At present, the range includes the brand new BMW 640i Convertible and 650i Convertible. These have exceptional new engines that offer massive amounts of grunt and velocity. The 640i engine is a straight six, while the new V8 offers 300 kW and 600 Nm.

Effortless performance, massive levels of grip and stylish looks (both in the interior and on the exterior) make the BMW 6 Series driving experience such a big lure to the ultimate GT buyer.
The BMW 6 Series has a superb range of engines to sit neatly in its beautiful car design. Strikingly elegant yet awesomely powerful, the BMW 6 Series offers the ultimate driving experience. German engineering and quality is oh-so evident when sliding into the cockpit of the GT, BMW 6 Series range. Each of the variants come with comfortable seating for four, luxury levels fit for a king or queen, ride balance and precision boasting colossal levels of road grip, and a design that will reach forward into the future like that of the BMW 507, BMW M1, BMW Z8 and the eighties and nineties BMW M6 – which ultimately is this car’s generic grandfather.

The BMW 6 Series engines are all powerful – some more than others, of course. Four models are currently offered. If you could call it the least powerful – I mean with a full 450 Nm available between 1300 and 4500 rpm – you can’t exactly say the BMW 640i Convertible is left wanting in the pulling stakes. And with 235 kW, a 250 km/h controlled top speed and a 0–100 km/h race time of 5.7 seconds you cover the ground rapidly, indeed!

Next model to talk about is the BMW 650i Convertible. Up goes the power and down comes the sprint times. Under the hood is a formidable eight-cylinder power plant that hits 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds flat from a standstill.

The outgoing BMW 650i Coupe is still available for sale. When up against the newly designed models it still looks beautiful and sounds awesome. The BMW 650i has a 4799cc V8 engine with 270 kW and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds (6 speed manual) and 5.5 seconds (6 speed auto).

Like the BMW 650i Coupe, the BMW M6 is also wrapped up in the older styling. A V19, 4999cc engine with 373 kW sits beneath the low profile bonnet lines. The BMW M6 is the flagship model and quickly finds its limited top speed of 250 km/h. You can gun to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, while the BMW M6 has a Formula One derived V10 motor which can rev to well in excess of 7000 rpm. Naturally, the car does not hang around for long and the transmission for the BMW M6 is a very slick seven-speed sequential gearbox that boasts ultra-quick and ultra-smooth changes.

Differences to note which the new BMW 6 Series (BMW 640i Convertible and BMW 650i Convetible) has is it is longer, wider and lower. A 460-litre luggage space is available which makes it even better for the GT role. Beautifully crafted leather seats accommodate occupants as a 2+2 layout, and they are bucket shaped and wonderfully comfortable. In the centre of the dash is a control display that stands alone. BMW’s Connective Drive includes premium features like Head Up Display and a high output surround sound system. Adaptive LED headlights have an around-the-corner cornering function. And a brand new eight-speed automatic gearbox is magical to use – with extra dynamic features to make your drive superbly entertaining.

All BMWs are well equipped cars and the BMW 6 Series is no exception. They all come with plenty of luxury items that are often taken for granted nowadays. Items like electric mirrors, leather seats, cruise control, alloy wheels and a premium radio/CD system are all standard for the entire BMW 6 Series range. Metallic paint is also standard and comes in a range of sensual colours that accentuate the BMW 6 Series’ fine figure. For those of you who like to let your hair down, the Convertibles are the way to go.

Safety is paramount and therefore things like: ABS – Anti Lock Brakes, ESP (Electronic Stability Control) Dynamic Stability Control, front seat belt pre-tensioners, a driver airbag and passenger airbag, and front side airbags are all standard items in a car like this.
The BMW 6 Series is the latest in the string of wonderful GT cars to come from the Bavarian Motor Works company. These cars all have fluent handling and wonderfully taut control under all driving conditions. This is one of the reasons why the BMW 6 series line-up has all the sex appeal that some of the classics that have come from Munich over the years have all had. The BMW 6 series is a car that offers a merging of performance, handling and design appeal that all drivers who are enthusiasts at heart can only enjoy.
The current model series includes the:

  • 640i Convertible (2011)
  • 650i Convertible (2011)
  • 650i Coupe
  • M6 Coupe
  • M6 Convertible
