2024 BMW X7 SUV

2024 BMW X7 SUV in silvery grey

It is big; it has up to seven seats; it offers all the comfort, infotainment, and safety you’re going to need in a luxury/sports SUV of this size.  The ride and handling of the big X7 is first-class, and the cabin space is excellent, and all the time, the premium SUV remains refined and serene when motoring in town or out on country roads.

There are five models of the new BMW X7 to choose from.  The base model, if you can call it that, is the BMW X7 xDrive 40i M Sport, which uses a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine with turbo power.  This means that this silky-smooth motor is capable of sending the large SUV from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.  The power is always strong thanks to its 280 kW offering plenty of get up and go, while the full 520 Nm of torque is on hand between 1850 and 5000 rpm.  Staying with the same engine but offering more in the way of luxury and tech, the xDrive 40i Design Pure Excellence variant is another one of the striking new X7s.

Making up two more of the five X7 variants are the M Sport and the Design Pure Excellence versions of the xDrive 40d X7.  These two models use the impressive 3.0-litre turbodiesel motor that boasts up to 720 Nm of torque at 1750–2250 rpm.  That’s plenty of pulling power for any towing jobs that need to be done!  With a maximum of 259 kW of power, it’s enough to see the Diesel X7s scamper through to 100 km/h from a standstill in around 6 seconds.  The top speed for these X7s isn’t far off 250 km/h.

The last model of the current 2024 BMW X7s is the flagship BMW X7 M60i.  This has the most performance of all the new X7s, with the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 doing the business.  Up to 390 kW and up to 750 Nm is a real step up in the performance stakes, and it’s the heart of the reason why the flagship model can complete the 0–100 km/h dash in well under 5 seconds and offer a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The large luxury sport BMW X7 uses the latest diesel or petrol engine technology and has a constant 4WD system that marries sweetly with the engine to offer a fuel economy range sitting somewhere between 8 and 12.2 litres/100km, depending on the model and the flex of your right foot.  The space in the rear of the BMW X7 is very decent for occupant space and luggage-carrying tasks.  Depending on how the three rows of seats are configured, the BMW X7’s boot space starts from 300 litres behind all three rows of seats right through to a whopping 2120 litres of storage when all the back seats are folded down.  You can also tow a braked trailer up to 2600 kg (or 750 kg unbraked) when called upon to do so.

Interior of the 2024 BMW X7 SUV

The level of quality and luxury in new BMWs is second to none.  To give you an idea, the least expensive of the new X7s (the xDrive 40i M Sport) provides a 16-speaker sound system; a multi-function control screen centre dash, which is also part of the digital driver’s display down the driver’s end; colour smart device app display/control features; smart device integration, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity; wireless connection and charging of compatible devices; multi-zone climate control; adaptive cruise control; voice recognition; keyless card and keyless start technology; premium luxury seats; GPS satellite navigation; speed zone reminders and limiting functions; 12-V sockets; eight airbags; 22-inch rims, powered windows; safety features such as crash avoidance technology, emergency braking, and lane-keep assist; a powered tailgate; and loads, loads more.  You can even get soft-closing doors and a glass roof.

The 2024 BMW X7 large luxury SUVs are truly lovely to drive.  Smooth, effortless performance and premium comfort never grow old.  These new BMWs come with a 5-year/unlimited km warranty, and 3 years of roadside assistance.
