2021 BMW M3

2021 BMW M3

The latest G80 BMW M3 is a new high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series Sedan.  The car has been developed by BMW’s own Motorsport Division, so these models get the hottest engines, handling bits to make it quick through the corners, extreme brakes, flowing aerodynamics that look stunning, lots of lightweight materials for weight saving, and various interior upgrades to go with the sportier M badge.  Its new exterior design boasts a brand-new face that has a huge vertical kidney grille at the front, and the awesome low-profile lines and sharp looking headlights all make up for a rather special looking M3.  BMW M3s have always been pretty good to look at, but the 2021 M3 has some breath-taking looks which are a bit of a showstopper.

Let’s get one of the important bits of information out of the way first and get right down to answering the question: Just how fast is a new 2021 BMW M3?  There are two new RWD BMW M3 models that you can currently buy: The base M3 model, and the M3 Competition.  The Base model BMW M3 costs around $160k new and has its full 353 kW of power available at 6250 rpm.  Very close to where the peak power is found there is the full 550 Nm of torque on song at 6130 rpm.  This M3 works with a slick 6-speed manual gearbox and has RWD for putting down the power onto the road.

The other version is only a bit more expensive at around $175k new, however the new RWD BMW M3 Competition has a bit more oomph to go with the higher price tag.  Putting out a maximum power of 375 kW and a peak torque figure of 650 Nm, the Competition model is all set to see you living life in the fast lane.  The main differences in the Competition model over the Base model is more power, an 8-speed sports automatic gearbox instead of the 6-speed manual, and a tighter race track suspension mode.  You’ll also find the Competition model has Lane Keeping – Active Assist, and Cross Traffic Alert – Front and Rear (Rear only on the Base M3).

So, the base model 2021 BMW M3 Sedan sprints the 0-100 km/h in around 4.2 seconds, 0-200 km/h in around 13.7 seconds, will go through the 80-120 km/h bracket of acceleration in 4.1 seconds (4th gear) and 5.6 seconds (5th gear).

The 2021 BMW M3 Competition Sedan sprints the 0-100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, and, as such, will do the other acceleration times a bit quicker.  The new BMW M3 Competition will also run up to over 290 km/h given the full throttle, so quite the racy sedan, then!

Both of these new BMW M3 versions are quicker compared with their outgoing predecessors, and they feel it too.  Shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, the grip is huge, the steering accurate.  There will be some AWD models becoming available soon as well, so a heads up there…

What is the cabin like and what goodies are on offer?  The M3 has always been a performance car with all the necessary luxury and comfort features that are desirable at the time.  Both 2021 M3 versions are well set up in the techie department, with things like Aux Input USB sockets, an MP3 decoder, Bluetooth, a multi-function control screen, Digital Radio, an incredible 16-Speaker sound system, keyless start – where the key fob is proximity related, a full digital instrument display, GPS (Satellite Navigation), Information Display – Heads Up, an on-board computer, a speed limiter, a speed zone reminder with road sign recognition, an onboard stopwatch for lap and acceleration times, multi-zone climate control, ambient lighting and voice recognition all being standard.

Isle of Man Green and a Frozen Portimao Blue are a couple of nice colours that you can have your new BMW M3’s exterior painted in.  There are some much the same-same greys, two whites and a black you can choose from, too.  The more exciting colours, in my opinion, are the ones like Frozen Orange, M Toronto Red, and M Sao Paulo Yellow.  You won’t go unnoticed when flying by in a splash of colour!

A range of options are also available for the two cars, with a variety of 19 and 20-inch M forged wheels for the new owner to choose from.  Acoustic glazing, active seat ventilation for the front seats, BMW Gesture Control, BMW Individual Extended Merino Leather, an electric glass sunroof, pricey M carbon bucket seats, even pricier M Carbon ceramic brakes, an M Carbon exterior package, an M Drivers Package, Individual paint colours, heated seating for occupants in the back, a heated steering wheel, sun protection glazing, and various types of interior trim are just some of the things you might like to add.

Longer by a smidgeon and a bit heavier on the scales, the BMW M3 Sedan looks the goods with the new dramatic, vertically oriented, kidney grille truly defining the latest M3.  The twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six is a gem, and there will also be some AWD variants coming into the M3 line-up very soon.
