2013 Audi RS5

Wider and sleeker, the new Audi RS5 has even more power to burn.

Thoroughbreds are a breed of horses possessing all the genes necessary for speed and stamina. The Audi RS5 is a race bred machine that has the ability to cover the ground like the wind, in an athletic and light footed way. The RS5’s line of attack is swift and breathtaking, and its path surefooted and reassuring.

A small wait is necessary for those of us in Australia who might have their hearts set on one of these German Bahn stormers. Equipped with the very best automotive technology and Audi’s legendary Quattro AWD, the new Audi R5, in the right hands, will have everything necessary to compete and better BMW’s M3 and the best Mercedes have to offer. Who will be driving such a car like this? People who want the best; who are after a drive that is uniquely superior to other fast cars on the road.

Compared to the current top of the line Audi S5, the new Audi RS5 will feature a more aggressive front end complete with generously proportioned air intakes and a deeper spoiler, wider wheel arches for housing the wider tyres and, like the R8 super car, the RS5 will boast an aluminium fuel cap. A nice set of brushed metal wing mirrors, and plenty of carbon fibre on the inside will feature prominently. Also differentiating the RS5 from the S5 is its honeycomb grille and single-outlet dual exhaust.

Sleekly proportioned and very nice looking, the Audi RS5 will boast plenty of power to burn. You can expect a 0-100 km/h sprint time of around 4.5 seconds. The powerhouse under the bonnet is sure to be of V8 stock, as placing a V10 underneath might put it beyond the budget of a prospective M3 buyer. A twin-turbo 4.2 Litre FSI V8 engine is likely. One potential power train option is the same 4.2L V8 as the RS4. However, if this is the case, power will likely be boosted to around 335kW. The new Audi RS5 will likely get the option of Audi’s newly upgraded S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox and a manual transmission alternative. Mated to a seven-speed S-tronic gearbox for that out-for-the-count blow that will send other pace cars reeling. And don’t forget that the extra traction gained from the Quattro underpinnings means that once you hit the twisting sections, the road grip will be sensational. Add a little moisture to the track, and the handling will be a class leading package.

Audi’s A5 series is perfectly designed as a decently roomy machine that offers excellent leg room and width across the rear seat. Seating will be comfortable; there is no doubt of that. And the sensational fit and finish inside and outside Audi cars is second to none. Expect all the best high tech equipment to be part and parcel of the new Audi RS5. Sat Nav, premium audio systems, heated seats, leather and exceptional safety.

Audi’s RS5 is fabulous to drive, and you feel pretty special inside one of these. It’s a car that has an exotic flavour about it.

The current model series includes the:
