2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet

2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet

Audi cars seem to be getting even better than ever.  A5 models look sweetly designed, and when in Cabriolet form they are strikingly attractive cars to own and drive.  Having learned the art of hanging on to a good thing, Audi is attracting plenty of keen buyers with their latest stylish designs right throughout their model line-up.  It’s a great time to be an Audi owner, with loads of interest in the brand and plenty of status that goes along with the car’s ownership.  Definitely, the new A5 Cabriolet is beautiful to look at and every bit as rewarding to drive.

Audis are cars without garish imperfections and, when you climb aboard the sexy A5 Cabriolet, there is an air of opulence running throughout the car’s luxurious interior.  The roof can be folded away in seconds, thanks to the electronic folding mechanism being activated at the push of a button.  Even with the roof down, the car feels rigid and controlled, ready for anything the road throws at you.  It’s nice to hear the punchy 2.0-litre petrol TFSI engines growl when under acceleration.  Of course, the Audi S5 Cabriolet 3.0-litre TFSI motorway muncher is the performance open-top model in the A5 line-up, but this model deserves a write up on its own.

Slick new instrumentation leads the way with virtual LED technology that is highly defined and keenly highlighted.  There is even a google mapping mode for the driver’s instrumentation package.  The 2018 A5 Cabriolet cockpit offers excellent virtual visual instrumentation, and from the driver’s seat you’ll enjoy the harmonious line of sight to all the switchgear and even the Head-up Display.  Seating is sumptuous, and with the defined stitching for both seat and fascia the car has a special feel about it the moment you’re inside the cabin.  Audi calls the new dash design an expansive wing-design, and it really is state-of-the-art and beautiful, all at the same time.

2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet Interior

There are a number of interior insert panel designs, and one of the classiest, in my books, is the grey oak trim bordered with chrome.  Simple looks and a clean display, along with quality materials and workmanship, go a long way to making a loaded luxury car a user-friendly, high-end automotive experience.  The new 2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet does have some sensational new technology on-board which is clever in design but not too difficult to use in everyday life.

Look on the outside of any new Audi A5 Cabriolet model and there is impeccable fit and finish, a quality statement for a fine motorcar.  You’ll notice that the 2018 models come with highlighted crimp lines over the bonnet that sweep, arrow-like, rearwards to accentuate the car’s look of speed and muscle.  I’ve always loved the proportions of the A5 model; they seem to capture the perfect blend of athleticism and grace.  Purposeful at the front, a curvy side-on silhouette, and a nicely defined tail, for me, ticks the boxes in the styling department.

You have a choice of some very nice low-profile alloy designs, and with twin chrome exhaust outlets at the back, there are few cars that look quite as nice as an Audi A5 Cabriolet.  For those of you who might like to accentuate the sportiness of the new A5 a little more, there are various interior and exterior designs, as-well-as accessories and options, that you can apply to make the 2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet an even more special and imposing machine with plenty of street cred.

Audi A5 Cabriolet models offer two engines.  The standard 2.0-litre petrol engine boasts a 4-cylinder petrol engine with direct fuel injection, turbo-charging and Audi’s new valvelift system.  Power delivery is instant, and there is loads of smooth acceleration for the driver to enjoy.  The Audi A5 Cabriolet 2.0 TFSI S-tronic Sport has 140 kW that peaks between 4200 and 6000 rpm.  A hefty punch of torque is at its maximum of 320 Nm from a low 1450 rpm right through to 5200 rpm.  This FWD A5 Cabriolet model feels swift and refined at any speed.  A top speed of 237 km/h can be reached on the right road, while the 0-100 km/h sprint is dispatched in around 7.9 seconds.

Driving the new Audi A5 Cabriolet 2.0 TFSI Quattro S tronic Sport not only means you gain the added AWD traction that Quattro provides, but the power has been boosted to a fine 185 kW.  Peak torque also rises to 370 Nm, and this high level of torque remains very flat even from its low 1600 rpm start point.  A limited top speed of 250 Km/h and a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.3 seconds should dial up your smiles.  This is a very well-planted machine that is satisfying to drive.  Open top motoring in Audi A5 form is special indeed.

New Audi A5 models come with the highest safety features that have enabled the car to come away with a five-star safety award in the recent NHTSA crash testing.  Features like an active bonnet (a bonnet that softens and tilts on a pedestrian impact); eight airbags which include front airbags for driver and passenger, side airbags for front and rear passengers, and head level curtain airbags for front and rear occupants; Hill Hold Assist, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and even a first aid kit are standard.

This is a classy Cabriolet that deserves all the praise it gets.  Roomy, luxurious and athletic, Audi is onto a winner.  Driving a new A5 Cabriolet fetches plenty of positive vibes.
