Toyota Aurion

Model Update

Big, solid and safe, the Toyota Aurion has hit the perfect chord of being a luxury large car with sporting character. Exterior tweaks have made the current Aurion appealing on the eye and distinctive when up against other big makes.

The big car’s performance is worth noting. Power delivery is very smooth, and the car has the goods to humble an equivalent Falcon, Commodore or Beemer.

Loaded with features, the Aurion has Driver Assist Technology (DAT) that includes Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control. Big seats that are exceptionally comfortable, nice audio systems, strong air-conditioning units, a car alarm, leather seats (optional) and lots of electronic features inside make for a very complete drive.

The Toyota Aurion is the first Australian built naturally aspirated powerhouse that delivers 200kw of power with a fuel economy of just 9.91/100km – on average. With technology that has been inspired by Toyota’s F1 racing team, the Aurion will deliver the excitement you crave – as well as the comfortable ride you expect.

Under the sleekly designed bonnet is a 200kw all-alloy quad-cam dual WT-i engine that is meshed to a six-speed sequential shift automatic. The very punchy 200kW of power is met at 6200rpm. A collossal 336Nm of torque kicks in at 4700 rpm. A really creamy source of engine response is accessed via the premium six-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota Aurion is thrifty (for its class). Fuel economy for the big machine is averaged out at 9.9 litres/100 km and the fuel tank takes 70 litres of premium unleaded fuel. The independent struts, coil springs and stabiliser bar suspension and chassis set-up make the ride smooth, even over an imperfect surface. Grip is fantastic, and the progress can become very rapid if the enthusiastic driver’s intentions are realised. Inside, the cabin remains very quiet. The Toyota Aurion also incorporates driver assist technologies, including Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control. This is a Toyota that aims high and succeeds extremely effectively. The car is very quick and stable, even at high speeds. The steering is nicely weighted to give the driver superior feedback, particularly when changes of direction are made quickly.

Safety is always paramount with the big Toyota car manufacturer, and this is exemplified in the Aurion. With enough safety features for Africa, the anti-lock brakes, 6 SRS front and side driver and passenger airbags, sonar parking sensors, Smart Entry/Smart Start, rear reversing camera, rain sensing wipers and high intensity discharge headlamps with an adaptive front-lighting system are just a few of the items on offer. This is a car that does it right the first time, and so the quality throughout the Aurion is absolutely first rate. The Aurion’s build quality, electronic systems, engine and safety items are all at the leading edge of automotive design and engineering.

The interior of the Toyota Aurion is superbly fitted, too. Slipping inside the Toyota Aurion’s seats gives an awesome feeling of voluptuousness and comfort. The Aurion boasts soothing colour tones that give a feeling of spaciousness in the smart sophisticated interior, while generous dimensions add to the roomy feeling. The five-seater has ample legroom in the front and rear for five large adults. The seating provides optimal support for reduced fatigue, while in the Sportivo models, sports seating offers greater lateral support. All models come standard with air conditioning including a pollen filter. For personalized comfort, dual zone climate control in Prodigy, Presara and Sportivo ZR6 models allows the driver and front passenger to independently select their preferred temperature settings. Other luxury items include: a DVD satellite navigation system with Bluetooth ® mobile phone compatibility, an MP3/WMA CD compatible audio system, power front passengers seat and an eight-way power adjustable seat for the driver. A car alarm and immobiliser, power windows, cruise control, power mirrors, automatic self-levelling headlights and LED tail lights all come as standard features. The wing mirror-mounted indicator-repeaters are an eye-catching safety feature. There’s plenty of space in the boot for school bags and sports gear – despite Toyota shunning the notorious space saver tyre in preference for the full size spare wheel.

The Toyota Aurion is proving to be a competitive player in the family car market. This is a quality car that has loads of comfort, space, impressive technology and smoothness for driver and passengers alike. The compelling blend of grunt, economy and comfort can be had at a very affordable price.
