2023 Toyota Fortuner

Having been a popular contender among new car buys for nearly all of their models, Toyota have produced another stunningly spacious SUV with stunning looks and huge competence on and off the road.  It isn’t Toyota’s largest SUV, but the brand-new Fortuner is a great size for families, and for those of us on the hunt for a roomy, comfortable, safe, and reliable SUV.

Inside a new 2023 Fortuner there is space for 5 or 7 seats, and in 5-seat configuration it offers a massive boot space.  Being a capable tow wagon as well, the Toyota Fortuner boasts up to 3100 kg of braked towing potential.  The maximum load without using trailer brakes is 750 kg.  Another awesome feature that the latest Fortuner has is that it still delivers amazing off-road ability with its excellent 4WD high/low-capacity gearbox.  The Toyota Fortuner is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with part time 4×4 being able to be turned on or off, depending on your choice of adventure and the sort of driving requirements you have at the time; this is done with just a twist of a knob.  The Fortuner is a bit of a legend really, being very capable of tackling the toughest terrain that the Outback has to offer, especially when fully kitted out with a full 4×4 kit, which are available through Toyota and other aftermarket outlets.  These off-road features include things like a snorkel for deep water, underbody protection for rocky terrain, and even a large roof rack for those holidays away out in the bush with your mates or your family.  Standard tyres are 265/65 R17.

In Australia we don’t currently get the 4.0-litre V6 petrol, however we do get the excellent 2.7-litre, four-cylinder Turbo Diesel motor, which is very reliable, powerful, and superbly efficient.  Toyota reckon that it’s possible to get a fuel consumption figure of around 7.6 litres/100 km.  Obviously, the driving demands at the time will affect the overall fuel consumption rate.

Being as big as it is does give the Fortuner a bit of a physical advantage in terms of safety, but the Fortuner experience is also about always staying in control, providing peace of mind and prioritizing the safety of your loved ones with dual front airbags, knee airbags for the driver, as well as EBD, ABS, BA, Hill Assist Control, VSC and TSC always working in your favour  The 2023 Fortuner comes with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

The new Fortuner has an 80-liter fuel tank, so you should be good for some seriously long hauls.  Of course, adding a Jerry can will enable more lengthy excursions.  Toyota’s 2.7 TD is a gem; it sings sweetly and runs smoothly, delivering strong torque across the range, with as much as 500 Nm being available.  Peak power is 150 kW, and the combination of grunt and torque sets you up perfectly for any on-road motoring or off-road terrain.

If you’re on a long haul across Australia, the Fortuner is a superb companion that happily takes care of all your techie needs – be it music, climate control, Bluetooth connections, smartphone charging and interfacing, as well as active cruise control, and GPS navigation.  The 2023 Toyota Fortuner comes with a rear view camera, giving you a super wide viewing angle, in addition to front and rear parking sensors for those tighter parking spaces or tricky driveways.

Designed for premium comfort no matter the terrain or environment your adventure takes you, the latest Fortuner comes standard with comfortable seating and an air-conditioning package with vents for all occupants onboard.  Cabin air circulation is good, even for those in the third row.  The brand new 8-inch multimedia system is connectable to smart devices through the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto platforms.  The new Fortuner also comes with front and rear 12V sockets, in addition to a front cooling box for keeping your drinks nice and cold on a hot day.

This is a likable big 4×4 that comes with its own classy styling and everything you’ll need for around town or way Outback.  It’s definitely a top contender for best in class, especially held up against other class acts like: Ssangyong Rexton, Kia Sportage, Isuzu MUX, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Skoda Kodiaq, and Ford Everest.

The 2023 Toyota Fortuner models include the:

  • GX
