Holden Combo

Holden Combo isn't Macdonald's latest burger deal, however it is Holden's superb van deal.

Model Update

Now here’s a small van that you’ll love. Holden’s little Combo van not only looks modern and smart, the Combo’s smooth aerodynamics makes for superb fuel economy, too.

In the engine bay is a modern ECOTECH, four-cylinder engine that runs on unleaded petrol. A combined fuel usage of 6.3 litres/100 km ensures that your running costs remain low. Servicing intervals are in 15,000 km units, which also helps to keep the overall running costs of your business vehicle as low as possible. Less time in the garage and more time on the road, means that you’ll be getting those jobs done quicker and keeping your cash flow stronger. The Holden Combo has a highly competitive price. Private Fleet will be happy to sort you out with a very competitive deal.

Safety is excellent for the Holden Combo. An Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, driver and front passenger airbags and pre-tensioning seatbelts are standard items.

On a more practical front, the sliding side door and double rear doors are extremely useful, making access to the remote cargo space tops.

A recent New Zealand-based study looked at the pattern of light to medium commercial vehicle use in urban centres. This study found, among other patterns, that while most central city businesses generate ever increasing numbers of journeys for commercial vehicles, parking is frequently a problem for couriers and other delivery services. Even though this report was only recently released, Holden seems to have anticipated the needs of urban-based commercial operators with the new Combo.

The Holden Combo is a vehicle that seems to hover halfway between a sedan and a van. Which is precisely what the designers were aiming at: producing a vehicle that blends the handling of a sedan (making it easier to manoeuvre into tricky parking spaces) with the practicality of a work van. With a total interior volume of 2.39 cubic metres, nearly two metres of height, big barn doors at the rear and a kerbside sliding door – all within a package 4.3 metres long – the Holden Combo is certainly a practical vehicle for commercial operators. The Holden Combo comes in two neutral colours (white and grey) which make the perfect background for company insignia or other signage.

The engine inside the Holden Combo is guaranteed to keep the company bean-counters happy, as it has a very respectable fuel economy level: 6.3 litres/100 km, which is on a level similar to much smaller urban hatches. However, the Holden Combo isn’t a snail-paced slouch, even if the sprightly 1.4 litre petrol engine can only produce a maximum output of 66 kW at 5600 rpm. The torque has a pretty useful twist of 125 Nm at 4000 rpm. It’s no race car, but the Holden Combo is guaranteed to get you from pickup to dropoff with the minimum of hassle and expense. The handling is brilliant, courtesy of the speed-sensitive power steering and the gas pressure dampers in the suspension.

On the inside, the Holden Combo is set up to be a comfortable mobile office for one or two people. The cloth-trimmed front seat has a bucket back for extra comfort, is height adjustable and has anti-submarining design included to ensure driver safety in a crash.. Full size driver and passenger front airbags and pretensioner seatbelts with force limiters completely ensure the safety of the people inside the Holden Combo, while the load can be secured with the six tie-down hooks (whether the cargo partition protects the passengers or the load is debateable – but even if the cargo is fresh eggs, I’d rather not have them down the back of my neck if I had to slam on the brakes). A rubber mat comes as standard to prevent the cargo shifting. If you’re spending the day behind the wheel, having a good sound system really helps, and the Holden Combo comes up trumps with a Blaupunkt radio/CD system that’s MP3 compatible. The cabin space around the Holden Combo has plenty of little storage pockets all over the place, including a drawer under the passenger seats and storage space in the roof above the seats. Air conditioning is there to keep the driver comfortable what ever the weather, and the visibility is excellent.

Who would the Holden Combo be suitable for? The Holden Combo would suit any business who has to watch their fuel budget (and these days, who doesn’t?) and who has to carry a medium-sized load. Florists, cabinet makers (to a point), decorators, couriers, printers, caterers and sales representatives will all find the Holden Combo to be a reliable, practical and economical vehicle.

The current model series includes the:

  • Combo Van 1.4
