Jaguar XJ6

The big cat known as a jaguar is a top predator from the jungles of Central and South America. Held as a symbol of position and power by the Aztecs, a jaguar is noted both for its strength and agility, and for its beautiful plush coat. The Jaguar car is a vehicle from the Jaguar/Daimler factories in the UK. And cars like the Jaguar XJ6 have many things in common with the big cat.

For a start off, the Jaguar XJ6 is a real status symbol – a symbol of position and prestige. Jaguars always have been, ever since they came out. And with the level of comfort, beauty, power and engineering excellence on offer, why not?

And the power associated with the Jaguar XJ6 isn’t just the power of rank and authority. It also refers to the heart of the beast. And here it would be good to mention that the Jaguar XJ6 resembles the big cat in another way: the animal comes in two variants (black and gold) and so does the machine: the Jaguar XJ6 and the XJ6 D. The Jaguar XJ6 sports a 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine with effortless power: a grand total of 179 kW at 6800 rpm and torque of 300 Nm at 4100 rpm. This Jaguar XJ6 is able to roar up to 100 km/hr from a standstill in a blistering 8.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 233 km/hr. The Jaguar XJ6 D, on the other hand, conceals a superbly engineered 2.7 litre V6 diesel engine beneath its famous bonnet. This diesel engine has been designed to eliminate 90% of engine vibrations that reach the cabin (and it’s been designed to minimise particulate and CO2 emissions). So all you’ll hear from the cabin is not a roar but a purr – the Jaguar XJ6 D is a stealthy, silent beast like the animal. And like the animal, the diesel engine conceals a lot of power with its silence: 152 kW of power at a low 4000 rpm and 435 Nm of torque at a superbly low 1900 rpm. While it hasn’t got the acceleration of a cheetah (few things have), the Jaguar XJ6 D can race from 0-100 km/hr in 8.2 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/hr.

And the Jaguar XJ6 is an agile beast. The Dynamic Stability Control system spots and pounces on understeer and oversteer, eliminating these factors and wheeling the Jaguar XJ6 around the tightest of curves. The big cat has big paws with claws to grip trees and keep it steady, and the Jaguar XJ6 has traction control to grip the tarmac, with brake assist helping the four-channel ABS brakes to bring the Jaguar XJ6 to a safe standstill when needed.

And as for beauty? The Jaguar XJ6 is one of the most beautiful – if not the most beautiful – cars on the road. The long bonnet with the scalloping that leads down to the round bi-xenon twin headlights has a classic, timeless appeal. From all angles and in all colours (including the classic British Racing Green), the Jaguar XJ6 looks nothing less than stunning.

The interior of the Jaguar XJ6 has all the plush comfort of a jaguar’s skin. The exquisitely hand-crafted leather upholstery, the chrome and wood veneer highlights all beg to be caressed – and they will caress you back with the supportive comfort the seats offer. Dual-zone automatic climate control keeps you at an even temperature whether it’s frying or freezing outside. The interior of the Jaguar XJ6 is spacious, with more than enough head, leg and shoulder room for everyone.

The big cats don’t come with safety features – they’re protected animals rather than protective. But drivers and passengers in the Jaguar XJ6 have all the safety features they need so they don’t become an endangered species. Not only does the Jaguar XJ6 have a rigid body that combines super-strong magnesium crossbeams with aluminium crumple zones, it also has pretensioned seatbelts, front side and curtain airbags with the ARTS crash severity and occupant sensor system and energy-absorbing seatbacks that move to prevent whiplash.

They say that you can fall in love with cars like the Jaguar XJ6. And I can believe that. Drive one, and so will you.
