Peugeot 207 Touring

Is the Peugeot 207 Touring a big small car or small big car? It doesn't matter, because it's a great drive.

What’s the hottest small wagon on wheels? Wheels that boast spoked 15-inch steel rims or sexy 16-inch alloys, a sporty front end styling that sports a shadow aluminium finish to the front grille, a glossy panoramic glass roof with an electric sunblind, and shimmering metallic paint in vivid colours have got to catch some eye time. And fat bottoms are the bane of many women, but there’s no fat bottom at the rear of the Peugeot 207 Touring. The stylish vivid red taillights embrace a well proportioned back end that offers plenty of space for luggage, and plenty of glass for sighting the vacant town car parks and the cars at the rear without bumping the car parked behind when slotting into a vacant parking slot. A heated glass rear window with a timed cut-off feature and a funky looking intermittent rear wiper complete the back end of the smallest and arguably the best looking Peugeot wagon.

I don’t know about you, but an engaging drive is always fun. The Peugeot 207 Touring has the luggage space and the involving handling that make for a super driving experience. The 207 chassis loves to be thrown hard round corners (just like the WRC Peugeot cars), defying the laws of physics by hanging on tenaciously on the corners all day long. The horses under the bonnet are lively enough to pull the Peugeot 207 Touring wagon along swiftly, while the speed sensitive steering keeps the car in tune with the road in combination with its superbly stable ride. Passengers, and driver, will enjoy the way the chassis soaks up the road undulations without fuss. Both engines are faultlessly smooth and very economical.

The quiet interior has a snazzy design that is modern, pleasing on the eye and very tactile. The premium materials inside the Peugeot 207 Touring interior are robust and well crafted, inviting lots of “ooh la la” comments. A leather trimmed steering wheel, an aluminium look to finish the centre console, optional leather trim and white instrument dials create a very fashionable package that will make even the French seamstresses take note of the quality appearance.

Plenty of wine, salads and croissants grace the French dining experience, and no comforts are spared inside the Pug’s cabin. Plenty of luxury features pamper and cosset the occupants seated in the snug 207 seats. This is one of the smaller Peugeots on offer, but I drove up next to a 207 the other day and was impressed by the overall roomy dimensions and big paw print on the road.

A five star safety result makes the Peugeot 207 Touring a car that leads the crash testing results in its class. This is always an important aspect to consider when purchasing a smaller car, and the Pug won’t let you down here. At Peugeot, they are very serious about their car’s safety, so driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, full length curtain airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Emergency Brake Assist, side impact absorbent door padding, pre-tensioning and force limiting front seatbelts, height adjustable front seatbelts, front and rear seatbelt fastening indicator lights, three rear 3-point seatbelts, rear door child safety locks, rear seat child restraint anchorage points, automatic doors that unlock in an accident and automatic activation of hazard lights under emergency braking are all part of the very complete safety package.

After the hottest set of wheels in the small wagon business? Check out the very reasonably priced Peugeot 207 Touring wagon, and be impressed.
