2012 Giulietta JTDm

One of the most distinctive cars on the road with its classy curves, deltoid grille and tear shaped headlamps is the Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm. Having raw performance baked into its design work, the Giulietta is an appealing package for any driving enthusiast, even for those who just love the look of exotic cars. Boasting a turbo-diesel engine, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm is perhaps the sportiest front-wheel-driven turbo diesel hatchback you’ll drive in today’s market place.

As soon as I set eyes on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm, I’ve got to admit I was stoked to be able to review this model. The twin exhaust pipes at the rear of the car match the sexy rear taillights and the squat nature with which the car sits smugly on the road. It’s a hot hatch with plenty of sex appeal, and the turbo-diesel engine is a great match for those who love performance whilst enjoying sensational fuel economy in unison. Engine displacement is 1956 cc and power output is a maximum of 125 kW at 4000 rpm. Raw power pulls very hard at just 1750 rpm, with a full 350 Nm of torque available from this engine speed. Stop/Start engine management, a six-speed manual/TCT gearbox and a fuel economy figure of a little over 5 litres/100 km is why this car, which is capable of 218 km/h, is so much fun to drive. Acceleration is quick, with the 0-100 km/h sprint is cleaned up in eight seconds flat.

Set into the Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm roof is a magnificently gigantic electric sunroof (optional) that can open wide for occupants to enjoy the sky above and plenty of nice fresh air. And you won’t find a dash like it anywhere; the stylish dash and central console are slim, and detailed in a way that is of interest and not in a way that is just plain and functional like you find in so many modern cars today. Alfa Romeo is still a manufacturer that loves to create a unique style that’s unmatched anywhere else. Dark leather ribbed seats are sensuous (optional), though the standard Competizione fabric seats still look the part. A pop-up display screen flips up from the middle of the top surface of the dash which displays satellite navigation and Bluetooth communication info when required. Silver-lined dials and instrumentation add to the individualist look that so many Alfa owners love and enjoy in their cars.

Entertaining to drive, and entertaining to occupy, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm has all the goodies on-board to make your trip a great journey. A CD audio player sits in the dash, while the bassy, clear sound truly rocks. You’ll be pumping out your favourite music tracks on the MP3 compatible, eight-speaker sound system in no time. Electric windows, a rear seat armrest with a built in storage compartment, automatic dual-zone climate control, cruise control (great for avoiding the ticket brigade) and all that Alfa-driving-enthusiast-fun is why these cars are great for the long haul or just taking your friends out for a quick blast along the scenic route.

A useful addition to make the sporty Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm even more of a practical hot-hatch can be found in the luggage compartment area. You’ll find a number of hidden storage compartments under the boot floor. An array of trays and compartments for placing a range of knick-knacks allows you to carry all the important stuff on a trip that can be a bit fiddly to have in the cabin area, and often it’s this sort of stuff that ends up spilling into the centre console, along the back seats or crammed into the glove-box area. To avoid the messy look, these compartments are ideal for carrying things like insect repellent, sunscreen, tools and the first aid kit – to name a few.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm excels when it comes to safety. Euro NCAP crash testing results reveals the Giulietta comes with a comprehensive five-star safety award. Things like double pre-tensioners in the front seats, dual stage airbags in the front seats, and head and thorax airbags are all standard equipment. To back up the car’s captivating handling prowess, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm also boasts ABS, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) and a Hill Hold feature for easy take off on steep inclines.

I can rave about this car. These are super to drive and always provide you with smiles, whether it’s their hot style, superb performance or grippy chassis that appeals most. The Alfa Romeo Giulietta JTDm is a winner.
