Model Update

The vote for best looking roadster would be a hard fought fight. Passionate loyal car fans would have their favourites, but amongst them, surely, would have to be the real deal from Alfa Romeo. The new Alfa Romeo Spider is unique in that it has Alfa Romeo, Giugiaro and Pininfarina design genes in its remarkably good looking flair. Striking curves and furrows make it quite a design statement on its all-alloy wheels.
The best features are all there: twin roll bars, wind break, rear storage compartments and a clever power-folding roof to close out the bad weather.
Any of the Alfa Spider variants warmly welcome their occupants. Exquisite quality materials are used in the Spider’s distinctive cabin, and all models drive like it looks: fast!
New for 2011 is the addition of the Alfa Romeo Spider 1750 TBi model. The petrol fed engine is blissfully free revving and fun to drive. To give you an idea of how well she goes, the 1750 TBi Spider will blast out the 0-100 km/h dash in just over seven seconds flat. Now that’s what I call wind in the hair driving! Corners??…what corners!!

“Over the hills and far away” is a saying used for heading off on a long, long journey into the wild blue yonder. I can’t think of a better way to get there than in a spectacularly good looking cabriolet – namely the very sexy, and Italian, Alfa Romeo Spider. Alfas always seem to come up with some of the world’s best automotive designs. What’s an Italian got that I haven’t!
Gliding round the very curvaceous exterior, you’ll note the low slung body and the sleek lines that run on the incline from the bulging bonnet to the high rear haunches. The look is muscular, highly addictive and very sporty. With the top down, you can admire the cabriolet’s leather seats that are so appealing to the eye, and extremely touchable. The interior is a comfortable and very supportive environment for all Spider occupants. High tech interior equipment levels make touring in the Spider very pleasant indeed. It is very clear that the car has been designed with the driving enthusiast in mind.

The cockpit directs its instruments toward the driver in a clear, logical fashion by grouping the climate control system, CD player and starter button together in the central console. The sleek sports seats come with very Smart adjustable head restraints. Dual-zone climate control comes as standard, as does cruise control, a CD changer, the leather interior, a trip computer, power windows and mirrors, and a super Bluetooth mobile hands free communications system that boasts voice recognition. If you decide on the 3.2 JTS V6 model you have a few more luxuries. The crystal clear Bose® Sound System produces a clarity of sound that will satisfy the muso’s perfectionistic ear. Xenon headlights, the premium Pieno Fiore leather interior, and electric adjustable seats become part of the already impressive level of extravagance.

So what are the models in the Alfa Romeo Spider line up? There are two variants. The 2.2JTS has the sparkling 2.2 litre petrol engine, while the 3.2JTS boasts the 3.2 litre V6 petrol engine which sounds absolutely gorgeous. There’s not that much difference in the performance stakes. Both machines are capable of pulling all the way through to 220 km/h with no problems at all. The V6 has a little more left in the tank to make it to 240 km/h tops. Zero to one hundred clicks can be done in 8.8 seconds for the 2.2JTS, and 7.0 seconds for the 3.2 JTS. The magnificent Italian engines are put through manual six-speed gearboxes or sequential six-speed shifters. An Alfa Romeo Spider is the quintessence of driving pleasure, roadholding and safety. To drive, the Spider’s steering is very direct, and the quick response is super-satisfying. The braking system uses four discs that include ABS and electronic brake force distribution systems. For maximum safety, the car also boasts the most advanced electronic traction and stability control systems available. In the 3.2 JTS V6 model, the Spider has Q4 permanent all-wheel-drive.
Wind in your hair, Bose® sound and the warm sun at your back. What could be a better way to travel Australia? The Alfa Romeo Spider could be all yours for a very reasonable price and a 3yr/100,000km warranty. Check it out!
