Subaru Exiga

Seven seats in the Subaru Liberty Exiga models make transporting friends a pices of cake. The wagon design looks superb, too.

What the in the world does the word “Exiga” mean? I haven’t come up with the definition yet, but my wife tells me that it possibly means to be demanding. It’s got a modern ring to it, and the new Subaru Liberty Exiga rates as a contemporary new seven-seater wagon with all the features that make a new Subaru so good to live with.

The Subaru Exiga is actually very similar to the Subaru Liberty Wagons – the difference really being in the number of seats available. What Subaru have done to make the Subaru Exiga a capable people mover, is added another two seats at the rear of the cabin. The three rows of seats offer good leg room, and the Liberty fan now has an extra two seats to fit another couple of kids for the car pooling run to school, the footy team trip or the birthday party. These days, the list of events at school that require tag-alongs is growing, and the extra practicality that the Subaru Exiga brings is reason enough to purchase the Exiga’s seven seats over the five-seater version. I have owned a seven-seater for a couple of years now, and the added satisfaction of being able to offer room for another two of my children’s friends has been a pleasure – something I couldn’t enjoy doing with using our other small five-seat car.

Where would we be today without all the wonderful new safety features that most modern cars come equipped with. There is still a difference in safety credibility between motor vehicles and car manufacturers alike. However, a massive improvement in consumer awareness of vehicle safety has definitely prompted a huge improvement in manufacturers providing safe cars for the consumer.

Where the Subaru Liberty Exiga sits in its class for safety is right at the top. Recent results given to the similar Subaru Liberty wagon firmly place the Subaru Liberty/Exiga at the top of the class for ANCAP crash testing results. A Subaru Exiga comes standard with the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, VDC electronic stability control and seven airbags.

Served up with AWD, the Subaru Liberty Exiga 2.5i and 2.5i Premium have the capabilities that will truly set it apart from the inconspicuous two-wheel drive cars. Well ahead of the rear-wheel driven alternative, and leagues ahead of the front-wheel driver in the handling stakes, the Subaru Exiga has optimum levels of grip both in the dry and the wet, gravel or the tarmac, wet grass and ice. Aiding the handling prowess of the Subaru Exiga is the lower centre of gravity that the vehicle has – due to the horizontally positioned boxer engine.

All the Subaru engines offer the Exiga plenty of power. They are happy to be pushed hard day in and day out. The Subaru Liberty Exiga may have an extra two seats, but the driving appeal still remains. Lusty performance and composed handling make the Subaru Exiga one of the more effortless drives for long Australian roads.

Designed for carrying people, the Subaru Liberty Exiga wagon has loads and loads of premium features. To start with, the comfortable seating is first class and the driver is able to easily find the right driving position with the adjustable steering wheel that moves both in height and telescopic directions. An elegant interior design boasts a graceful instrument cluster and multi-information display. Steering wheel audio controls are accompanied by steering wheel cruise controls, and the Subaru Exiga boasts a twin trip meter. A very useful overhead console for storing sunglasses and a unique tool kit were excellent practical features that really do support how easy to live with this motor vehicle can become. Leather seats are an option (depending on the trim levels), and tasteful trimmings of premium materials create an environment that is not only luxurious but has a hint sportiness. Remote central locking, a leather steering wheel are standard, and an AM/FM Radio, 6-stack in-dash CD player (MP3 and WMA compatible), six-speaker and auxiliary jack in the front console takes care of the musical and electronic geeks out there.

A blue interior illumination looks nice, and even the hottest days are matched with impressive cabin cooling capacity. The air conditioning or dual climate control systems have anti-dust filters, front and side demisters and heater ducts for rear passengers.

Take a look at the Exiga’s modern styling, and you’ll see that the bold headlight design and Smart lines make the new Subaru Liberty Exiga a highly desirable wagon.
