Skoda Superb Wagon

Sleek wagon lines make the Skoda Superb Wagon very nice, indeed.

What station wagon can you buy that packs a massive amount of leg room in the back, leads the way in build quality fit and finish, and performs like a high-end Euro for under 60k? The answer, ladies and gentlemen, is the very fine Skoda Superb Wagon. I like the new Commodore wagons, but the Skoda Superb Wagon is so much more fuel economic – especially in diesel guise.

Glance over the long, raking exterior lines, and the Skoda Superb Wagon looks sensational. Elegance and sophistication is caught up in the wagon’s ageless style. A rounded distinctive nose incorporates the unique Skoda Superb headlights. Chrome finishing adds class, and the long bonnet and gently raking wind shield moulds into the extensive low roof line and tapered back end which finishes nicely with the stylish C-shaped, rear tail-light design.

Depending on the model of your choice, the prices reflect the wagon’s equipment levels and engine power. I like them all! Powerful FSI and TFSI petrol or TDI turbo-diesel engines give the Skoda Superb Wagon plenty of refined power and fantastic touring ability. With the power, massive load carrying ability and nice roomy comfort in the back seats, there is really no need to look anywhere else for the best all-round performer in the station wagon world. Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights, Park Assist, nine airbags and electronic stabilisation program (including ABS and EBD) as standard keep the Skoda Superb Wagon at the front of the automotive technology field.

Feeling much more expensive than it actually is, the new Skoda Superb Wagon boasts classy materials in the cabin, leather and even heated rear seats! Nine airbags and standard features such as dual-zone climate control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, heated rear-view mirrors, satellite navigation, electronically-adjustable front seats with memory, a very good ten-speaker stereo system and 17-inch alloys do make you feel rather special. Other comfort items in the Superb Wagon include an optional electronically-controlled panoramic sunroof with a moving and hinged front part, tinted glass and an electric blind roller.

With the seats folded down, 1865 litres of luggage space is very hard to beat – unless you go to a big van or small truck. Add to the fantastic load carrying ability the Superb Wagon’s boot space that features several technical innovations like an optional electronically-controlled boot, dividing net and system of hooks and loops for fixing the net programme, an innovative luggage restraint system and an extendable boot floor, and you’re getting a big bang for your bucks spent.

Safety is always important. And in the 2011 Skoda Superb Wagon you’ll find the best airbags and electronic stability systems. The Skoda Superb Wagon is fitted with nine airbags – including side and head airbags, as well as a knee airbag for the driver. The Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) – which includes ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), MSR (Torque Moment Regulation), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulator), EDS (Electronic Differential Lock) and HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assistant) – ensures the car can be controlled in critical situations. And undoubtedly these aid the remarkable level of composure and grip on the road. The Superb Wagon sits effortlessly at high speed, soaking up the bumps and road undulations with ease. For some people a hill start is always going to be a daunting task. But with Skoda’s hill hold control, starting on a slope without using the handbrake is easy, comfortable and safe. If you desire, the Skoda Superb Wagon can be equipped with AWD traction. Together with ABS, ESP and EDS, the big wagon has excellent control on wet and slippery surfaces.

Always willing and always refined, the 118 kW TFSI petrol engine performs exceptionally well and with excellent fuel economy. Up the stakes, and drive the Skoda Superb Wagon 191FSI, and the petrol fed, 191 kW power is fast, responsive and quiet. Perhaps, the best of them is the 125TDI version. This has the turbo-charged common rail diesel unit which produces 125kW and returns just 6.3 litres per 100km for its combined fuel cycle. These engines are linked to six or seven-speed DSG gearboxes.

Make the shift, and drive an all new Skoda Superb Wagon. You’ll be impressed.

The current model series includes the:

  • Superb Wagon 118 TFSI
  • Superb Wagon 191FSI
  • Superb Wagon 125TDI
