Dear [first_name],

I saw her topless for the first time, gliding into third gear along the Roseville Bridge. Clad in the type of blue that perfectly enhanced by the cloudless sky, she was the epitome of summer, never mind the icy wind that had sprung from the surface of the sparkling Middle Harbour water. The driver, her short blonde hair dancing in the waft created by her car’s movement, seemed happy to let the air rearrange her coiffure. She wore sunglasses and I saw – or did I imagine? – a long floral scarf waving in the wake of the small gust.

There is something undeniably cool about convertibles, despite the hot weather they crave; there is a certain freedom in leaving the top down, inviting nature to play with a manmade object. Maybe it’s this type of freedom that reminds me of summer days at the beach, riding endless waves and ignoring the sea breeze whipping at my hair. So now that we’re leaving winter and heading into warmer weather, maybe convertible drivers are the ones to emulate.

If you love classics, look out for the convertible Corvette in red, or if you’re a roadster at heart, then Nissan’s 350Z might be your car. The stylish and affordable Holden Astra also comes topless and looks great in black or silver. Forget fighting against the heat with an overworked air conditioner, use nature against itself and create your own weather. (And remember to slip, slop, slap).

Speaking of Holden, the new VE Commodore (www.vecommodore.com.au  ) made a splash at its launch last month, part of a $1.1 billion car program to reinvent the iconic vehicle on Australian turf. Six years in the making, the VE sports innovative design features, such as a broader wheelbase that allows the tyres to sit closer to the corners of the car’s body, giving it a dynamic stance on the road. With Holden’s signature attention to safety and performance, and judging by the requests we’ve already fielded from Private Fleet clients, the new VE looks, in more ways than one, to supersede the outgoing VZ series, which has been Australia’s best-selling car this year.

On that note, we’d like to mention and welcome two new consultants (Paul and Adam) pushing the Private Fleet team to even greater buying power, all dedicated to finding you the best car deals in town. Ask them about the VE – or anything else you might be after this time around.

Remember as well our current member referral program valid til the end of August. For any successful referral, we’ll provide a free, waterless car wash at your home or office to say thank you. Don’t let water restrictions ruin your new car!!

And we mustn’t forget to mention Tommy Ng, who won Private Fleet’s World Cup Fantasy Competition. Australia may not have made the quarterfinals, but Tommy took the game from the second week and stormed home to scoop the winnings.

Best wishes as always…

The Private Fleet team
