2018 Renault Trafic

Renault Trafic Crew 2018

The current fleet of Renault vans are smartly designed.  With many features for carrying cargo, these are very hard to beat for versatility and space.  The new range of Renault Trafic vans offers much in the way of dimensions, safety and power.  This isn’t just a van for basic haulage.  Renault offer the new Trafic with a 3 year/200,000 km warranty which should see most Aussie businesses set up with one of the best modern fleet of vans you could buy.

The littlest Renault Trafic, if it can be called so, is a very well built van with nice large doors on the side and rear, making it really easy to load the cargo area.  It might be the smallest model, but the tall roof and wide sides fits a great amount of cargo inside (5.2 m3).  Step inside the cargo space and the 12 V power outlet is nice and accommodating for running small appliances when the need arises.  Two interior cargo lights offer a bright light when working late and there is also 16 anchorage points to secure loads.  Renault provides an optional set of roof rails for carrying extra cargo for the trip.  I imagine a sparky or plumber could easy put long pipes and ladders onto the roof loading system.  If your work tends to find you jumping in-and-out of the cargo area (especially in the wet) lots, then a special anti-slip timber flooring can be fitted.

Renault Trafic 2018

Powering the cheapest short wheel-base Renault Trafic is the exceptionally economical 66 kW single turbo-diesel.  With 260 Nm, you’re still going to find plenty of pulling power for getting your cargo logistics sorted.  There is also an 85 kW single turbo-diesel that has a stronger 300 Nm of torque if the base model isn’t enough.  Both engines are run through a six-speed manual transmission which feels very well in tune with optimum engine torque levels.  By the way, both models have maximum torque on tap from as-low-as 1500 rpm.

Of the short wheel-base models, the twin-turbo Renault Trafic is the most powerful engine provided with a higher output 1.6-litre turbo-diesel boasting 103 kW and 340 Nm.  A combined fuel efficiency cycle of less than 7 litres/100 km is very impressive.  It too runs with the six-speed manual gearbox.  You’ll also find that the Long Wheel Base Twin Turbo Trafic, the Crew Trafic and the very stylish Formula Trafic models come standard with the gruntiest engine.

The Trafic long wheel-base (LWB) model pushes the cargo space up to 6.0 m3.  Also handy with the LWB is the 1.2-tonne payload and the 2000 kg towing ability.  If I wanted a van with all the right options, the LWB might well end up top on my shopping list.

The Renault Crew Trafic model has six seats with three point seat belts.  This is a great set up for the business requiring cargo capacity as well as some seats for passengers.  Dual glazed sliding side doors; front, side and lateral airbags completes the Crew package.

Renault Trafic 2018 Versatility

If it was all about style, then the Renault Trafic Formula Edition van is a real eye-catcher.  Inside the van is the premium dashboard design with a MediaNav infotainment system at the centre.  This system boasts a 7-inch touchscreen.  On the outside are a variety of paint styles, side strips, grille inserts and a set of spunky 17-inch Cyclade alloys.  You can buy the Formula model in either short or long wheelbase, but only with the most powerful 103 kW/340 Nm twin-turbo Renault diesel engine.

No matter which model of 2018 Renault Trafic you choose to buy you will be fully equipped in the safety department.  Renault is a safety leader, and any of the vans come with stability control, ABS, EBD, anti roll-over protection, airbags, reverse sensors, an engine immobiliser, cruise control with a speed limiter, three front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters and Hill Start Assist.  Also, amazingly any of the new Trafic vans require a whopping 12 month/30,000 km service interval, which is quite outstanding.

If you intend to make the most of your journey and can see yourself sticking with your new Trafic companion for a lengthy period, then I suggest you take a look at the twin-turbo model which has some very nice option packs.  The Lifestyle Pack, for instance, offers features like heated seats, hands-free engine start, interior chrome trimmings, a MediaNav 7-inch touchscreen multimedia and navigation system with a 2x20W speaker radio.  Java cloth seats are a step up from the already nice seating material.

Go and treat yourself or the business and buy the one of the great well-equipped vans for 2018: the new Renault Trafic.
