2017 Mitsubishi Triton

2017 Mitsubishi Triton

Hugely improved again, the 2017 Mitsubishi Triton poses as a desirable work ute or even family wagon.  Lots of space inside and in the luggage bay, while safety is excellent and modern technology very competitive, the classy Triton will be a great ute for work and play.

A familiar 2.4-litre petrol engine with 94 kW of power and 194 Nm of torque is available for those Triton buyers who want a no frills, base model ready for hard work but without setting the world alight with performance.  Still a really reliable workhorse, the 2.4-litre petrol motor keeps on keeping on with regular servicing.  The Single Cab 2.4 petrol Triton is the cheapest model, and is also easily compatible with the latest LPG system.  If you do go the LPG way, then the running costs are significantly reduced.  This model has a five-speed manual gearbox as standard.  Even though an entry level model, the safety kit is very good, and all 2017 Mitsubishi Triton utes performs well in crash testing.  A five star safety rating has been given to the 2017 Mitsubishi Triton, and features like ESC, curtain airbags, knee airbags, EBA and trailer stability control come as standard.

The new lease of life found in the form of the latest Mitsubishi 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine provides a considerable step up in power to a healthy 133 kW.  This maximum level is found at 3500 rpm, and gives the Triton workhorse quite a kick for passing on the open road.  Also noticeable is the big growth in torque, which now delivers 430 Nm of torque from 2500 rpm.  This wave of torque keeps it comparable with other utes on the market, while taking full advantage of the enjoyable shove that the delivery gives to the Triton in the low-to-mid range.  A six-speed manual transmission is nice and easy to shift through the gears.  Particularly well married to the Diesel, the manual gearbox has all the power you’ll need – and more.  The other alternative for most models is the smooth five-speed auto.  This just makes life that little bit easier, whether you’re traversing some tough terrain or cruising through the city streets.

As the small truck/big ute could be used on some tough work sites in trying conditions, the option of purchasing AWD as opposed to RWD is offered to buyers.  Also, each model comes with Hill Start Assist — a feature that will make life a whole lot easier for some.  The 4-wheel drive models can “shift on the fly” in and out of 4-wheel-drive. So don’t worry if you have forgotten your gumboots!

2017 Mitsubishi Triton Interior

Towing up to 3000 kg with a braked trailer is easy for the tough new Triton, and 2017 also sees Mitsubishi equipping the Triton with cruise control and air-conditioning as standard items.  Having good seating, leg and head room in the rear makes the new Triton a good dual cab option, while the front seat passengers are in really good shape with excellent seats and good support.  There is loads of adjustment both in the driver’s seat and in the steering column.

Technology in the 2017 Mitsubishi Triton ranges from a good solid sound system, air con, electric windows and Bluetooth communications for base model buyers through to a full array of luxury features to those buyers lucky enough to own a new Double Cab 4×2 or 4×4 Triton.  The Double Cab 4×4 really is a nice vehicle that is super tough, yet loaded with luxury features including the full leather interior.  Neat interior chrome detailing, climate control dual-zone air-conditioning, smart key entry, one touch start, automatic rain sensing wipers, steering wheel mounted controls, automatic dusk sensing headlamps, an automatic transmission gear indicator, heated leather seats, a six speaker surround sound system, HDMI input, a multi information display screen, audio streaming and voice control, smartphone linkage, DAB radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are all items you’ll find inside the top of the range new Triton Dual Cab models.

On the outside of the Exceed top of the range Double Cab 4×4 you’ll find a striking exterior package with 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome door mirrors, door mirrors with integrated turn indicators, chrome door handles, fog lamps (front), side steps, a rear step bumper, privacy glass and High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps to name a few of the good looking features.

Mitsubishi Triton Exceed 2017

As far as utes go, the new Mitsubishi Triton design is appealing on the eye and has the tough looks one associates with a workhorse.  More rounded edges, a bold front nose and slightly larger dimensions help make the Triton a great working companion – not to mention family vehicle.  Triton lineage goes well back into past decades, so what you get with Mitsubishi is a tough, reliable  ute that offers solid transport and practical ability.  Modern versions, particularly, have evolved into quite a desirable machine.  Some might say the Triton is a little underrated when alongside the popular Hilux and Navara alternatives.
