2021 Lexus LC

Crisp, elegant lines keep the new Lexus LC’s muscly bodywork beautifully in check to form what is a stunning Luxury Coupe from Lexus.  The new Lexus LC 500 and LC 500h strikes a sleek and seductive silhouette and the low-profile body shape hints towards an ultra-low centre of gravity for great handling characteristics.  One of the new design tweaks that the latest Lexus LC has is the ultra-compact LED headlights that give arrowhead eyes to the handsome LC face, and the stunning mesh-spindle grille lends boldness to the LC 500’s appearance.

There is more to like about the Lexus LC.  From all angles, the 2021 Lexus LC is a work of art that looks incredible.  Head around to the rear of the coupe, and the LED taillights are elegantly fashioned in an L-styled shape.  At night, these LEDs have an aura of brilliance.  There is also a neat and racy quad exhaust system out the back, and an electronic spoiler that lifts and lowers accordingly with speed and braking.  For even greater aerodynamic performance, the outside door handle is flush against the door panel’s surface, but it also provides a beautiful minimalist look to the coupe’s door design.  These flush doorhandles have an electric pop-out operation and handle illumination when the smart key sensors are activated.  This just adds to the car’s feeling of glamourous exotica.  The new Lexus LC can be enjoyed in as many as 11 different exterior colours, all of which have the LC looking sharp and endearing.  There are also four different interior trim colours to nicely complement the choice of exterior colour.

The car boasts 3 Projector bi-beam LED headlights that sear through the darkness.  Automatic high beam assistance (AHB), automatic headlight levelling, pop-up headlight cleaners, LED cornering lights, LED daytime running lights and the LED rear taillights all work to provide the driver brilliant night vision and safety, but the dazzling light show also acts as an attractive night display for captured onlookers passing by.

You will definitely be heard coming in the V8 model.  The 2021 Lexus LC 500 is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 5.0-litre engine that delivers 351 kW of power and effortless performance without compromise.  The power is always found on tap, thanks to the perfect connection of motor and 10-speed automatic genius.  The LC 500 has a maximum output of 351 kW that is found at 7100 rpm.  The car’s maximum torque is a creamy 540 Nm which peaks at 4800 rpm.  The 2021 Lexus Luxury Coupe boasts EURO 5 Emission certification and has a combined CO₂ emissions of 267 g/km – pretty good for a V8 Coupe.  You can expect the car’s fuel consumption to be somewhere in the vicinity of 17.6/8.2/11.6 litres/100 km (urban/extra-urban/combined), which all depends on how you drive and real-world situations.  Toyota/Lexus are pretty good at getting close to their manufacturer’s claims.

For those who want to do without a burbling V8, then the quieter hybrid LC will be the one for you.  Both cars cost the same to buy (close to $220k new), but the hybrid Lexus LC boasts a greener 152 g/km of CO2 emissions, an average fuel consumption of around 7 litres/100 km, 220 kw of power to play with via RWD, and 348 Nm of torque.

As you would expect by the new Lexus LC’s looks alone, the new LC is a quick coupe to drive.  With a top speed of 270 km/h for the V8 model, and its 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.7 seconds, you won’t be late to any board room meetings anytime soon!  Hybrid versions will do the same sprint in a bit over five seconds.  The 2021 model has a wider paw print on the road than its predecessor and the tyre width has also been increased.

Though there have been attempts to curb the cars weight through the use of features like an aluminium bonnet and front fenders, and a carbon fibre roof, the car still packs a fairly solid 2375 kg for the V8 and more for the hybrid.  By comparison, the BMW 8 Series has a curb weight that sits between 1875 – 2070 kg.  The Jaguar F-Type coupe V8 weighs in at around 1800 kg.

However, the Lexus LC rides amazingly nicely on the road, so the added weight of all the goodies does have its benefits.  The 2021 Lexus LC is a quick but very comfortable Coupe to drive and ride inside, though there is not much room in the back for two.  The Lexus Dynamic Handling system (LDH) improves high speed cornering stability by steering the rear wheels in the opposite direction, and the new LC 500 also cuts through the air with aerodynamic features that include aero stabilising fins, an active rear wing and the world’s first rear aero ducts.  The car now sits on wider wheels, with 21-inch rims all round and Michelin doing a superb job of providing sizzling performance and grip.  The LC’s direct and accurate steering is a joy to experience.

2021 Lexus LC cars come with an array of excellent safety features.  You can take corners with confidence – thanks to the LED cornering lamps, which helps you spot pedestrians when entering an intersection and even at night.  If you’re involved in a collision, the impact is greatly reduced with 8 sensor-controlled SRS airbags lining the cabin and providing enhanced protection for all occupants.  Features like a Pre-Crash Safety System with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assistance and Vehicle Sway Warning, All Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, an Anti-Lock Braking System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Drive-start Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill-start Assist Control, an Emergency Stop Signal, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, ISOFIX connection pints for kiddies seats (x 2), a Reversing Camera with Active Guidelines, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, a Siren Alarm System, an Engine Immobiliser and a Smart Key Entry System with Card Key are all standard items.

Lexus has always been a luxury brand, and with the new LC there is no exception.  When it comes time to enter the car, the Smart Key illuminates the area around the car as part of the entry system.  The LED Door Courtesy Lamps and the Front Footwell Illumination makes entry into the LC 500 a breeze and rather a special and glamorous experience.

Inside the new Lexus LC is an outstandingly comfortable cabin with gorgeous sport-styled seats that are made of semi-aniline leather.  The front seats are accented and 10-way power adjustable, so you can slide, recline, lift the seat height, and enjoy awesome lumbar support.  The 3-spoke leather steering wheel and the hand rests are covered with dimpled leather, and the paddle shifters are made of magnesium.  The steering wheel controls include audio, telephone, dynamic radar cruise control and lane keeping assist.  The steering wheel has powered tilt and telescopic steering column adjustment.  Drivers will enjoy the digital driver’s display which also boasts a drive-mode differentiated display.

Things like zoned air-conditioning with climate control, nanoe air purification, cabin humidity sensors, push button start, a 174 mm x 48 mm colour head-up display (HUD) with navigation and audio linkage, a manual glass roof shade, various power outlets, a 1 x 12v socket located in centre console box), wireless phone charging and connection, 13 speaker premium sound system that includes a rear subwoofer and an 11 channel digital amplifier, Bluetooth connections, handsfree telephone, voice recognition, audio streaming, miracast via wi-fi, usb ports x 2, a 3.5mm audio jack, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.3-inch high resolution centre display screen, a satellite navigation system, SUNA traffic channel (only available in some regions), adaptive cruise control, electric power steering, front cupholders, front door pockets, keyless ignition, a rear view camera, a universal remote transmitter (for garage door, security system, etc.), an electrochromatic rear-view mirror and dual illuminating vanity mirrors are just some of the awesome equipment onboard the new Lexus LC.  It is easy to see why this is a standout Luxury Coupe.

Only 150 litres of boot space is available, but you can also put your luggage in the small back seats.  You are unlikely to be using the Lexus LC as a family wagon anyways!

The latest LC comes with a 4 year/unlimited km warranty.  When you buy a new Lexus, you’ll not only enjoy the vehicle’s unparalleled luxury and advanced technology, but also the complete customer care experience, which is quite special.  From regular servicing requirements to emergency roadside assistance, Lexus has got you covered.  Though not quite the quickest Luxury Coupe available, it is arguably the nicest to drive and own.
