Sorento 3.3L Petrol

Kia Sorento 3.3L

Kia Sorento 3.3L Petrol

It’s interesting at the time of writing this that I have often seen a Kia Sorento swiftly passing me on the open road.  Maybe I’m a slow driver or it simply reflects the typical Kia Sorento driver.  Funny, though, because once you get behind the wheel of the modern and stylish Sorento SUV you do notice the amount of get-up-and-go that one of these has.  Kia’s new Sorento 3.3L Petrol packs some serious grunt, and with AWD traction it makes for a great ski wagon.

New for 2016, the Kia Sorento 3.3L has nice looks and dimensions.  Its dimensions place the vehicle in the mid-to-compact sized SUV, and with its good pricing you need to consider how well packaged this offering from Kia really is.  Inside the Sorento interior, the cabin is well put together and feels comfortable and welcoming.

The engine is a 3.3-litre V6 DOHC with CVVT to control the valve timing.  The result is a grunty motor that is quiet and lively when you need to press on with business.  A maximum power output of 199 kW, and with plenty of torque available low down and through the mid-range, the engine is satisfying to drive out on the open road – if not a little thirsty, particularly around town.  It never really feels short of breath, so fully loaded with ski bunnies and ski gear on-board, the AWD Sorento is a great vehicle for hitting the slopes with.  You can expect a 0-100 km/h sprint time of around 8 seconds.

Plenty of agility and solid grip makes this a nice driver’s vehicle.  There are some mechanical improvements in the new Sorento 3.3L Petrol which include things like a strengthened structure, upgraded suspension and improved steering, -which together creates a nice drive.

Technology has advanced so much in the last decade, and Kia takes full advantage of this, incorporating heaps of great features to make the journey comfortable and entertaining.  There are, of course, model variants, so the level of gadgetry depends on the spec level.  The Kia Sorento 3.3L comes in Si, SLi and Platinum.  Platinum being the most stacked with techie stuff.  It’s always good to check out the base model of any vehicle, as this gives a good indication of how much money you might need to hand over for any additional features you might like.  The new Kia Sorento 3.3L Si comes with cruise control (with steering wheel mounted controls), a premium steering wheel and shift knob, a 3.5-inch monochrome LCD instrument cluster, a multi-function trip computer, ambient temperature display, a digital clock (in audio), power windows (front and rear), a driver’s foot rest, front and rear interior lights, an interior light with a delay out feature, three 12 volt power outlets, two USB charger inlets, a sunshade blind for the second row, and a front passenger and driver sunvisor with built in illuminated vanity mirrors.  Every 2016 Kia Sorento comes standard with traction and stability control, antilock brakes, front side airbags, and front- and second-row side curtain airbags.

Other standard features on the Kia Sorento 3.3L Petrol Si are things like an MP3 compatible audio player with an AM/FM tuner, six speakers, satellite navigation and a 7-inch full touch colour LCD screen.  Bluetooth communications for both the phone and media stream is a nice techie feature.  A nice set of 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, three-mode drive settings (altering steering and transmission shift points), stain-resistant fabric upholstery and 40/20/40-split second-row seats (fold, slide and recline) to give you a Kia Sorento 3.3L with lots going for it.

There are other SUV alternatives to the Sorento: the Toyota Rav4, Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Nissan Pathfinder.  The Sorento 3.3L scrubs up well against the competition, and its looks and comfort levels alone will give it an edge for some buyers who are on the lookout for a good mid-size SUV that can seat five-to-seven in comfort.

The current Kia Sorento 3.3L Petrol model series includes the:

  • Sorento 3.3L Petrol Si
  • Sorento 3.3L Petrol SLi
  • Sorento 3.3L Petrol Platinum
