2022 Kia Sorentos boast five-star safety and all the best active and passive safety features.  The PHEV is the model that was recently tested by ANCAP, and it came through with flying colours.  Onboard the Sorento are things like 8 airbags that include curtain airbags down the entire length of the vehicle, seatbelt load limiters and pretensioners, an engine immobiliser, ABS, brake assist with regenerative technology, stability and traction control, cameras all round, crash avoidance and braking (vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), hill hold, park assist, automatic headlights, DRLs and cruise control are all features we’re going to like.  Autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance are all features to set this one apart.

All the safety kit in the world is great, but how does the Sorento drive?  Out on the road, the handling is compliant, taut, and secure on all road surfaces.  Braking is strong and confident, and the Sorento is a great cruising machine that offers comfortable seating for all.  Refined and quiet interiors along with plenty of power, should you need to kick down and pass slower moving traffic, makes the driving pleasure superb.  This is a recommended SUV for the family.  It delivers very well on all accounts and is reasonably priced.

A 2022 Kia Sorento Wagon/SUV is a 7-seater.  Kia have designed it with your family in mind, so it is being touted as one of the most advanced vehicles in the large family SUV class.  It does boast many sensors, cameras and digital screens.  You can even pull up to a parking space and the Sorento will park itself without anyone inside.  This is a cool feature to show your inlaws or your teenager’s mates.

The new Kia Sorento is available in Sport, Sport+ and GT-Line variants, and the choice of a FWD (front-wheel-drive) 3.5-litre 200 kW/332 Nm V6 petrol with an eight-speed auto gearbox or an AWD dual-clutch automatic 148 kW/440 Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel is yours to make.  Top of the range, and the most expensive, is the Kia Sorento PHEV with its GT-Line specs and a 190 kW/350 Nm PHEV credentials.  Obviously, offering plug in hybrid technology, as with all new technologies, equates to having to spend more money than more conventional methods.  It’s kind of like grocery shopping, where what’s healthy ain’t cheap and what’s cheap ain’t healthy.  You have to pay more to get the better stuff.

As a likable family SUV the new Sorento looks pretty suave, especially in the metal.  Colours include Aurora Black, Gravity Blue, Mineral Blue, Steel Grey, Silky Silver, Snow White Pearl and Clear White.  Premium paint adds $695 to the ticket price.  You’re loaded inside, where you’ll find things like a six- or eight-speaker digital radio sound system with Bluetooth connections, speed zone reminders, road sign recognition, reclining rear seats, leather look seating material, electric windows, USB and other auxiliary input points, a powered tailgate (GT-Line and Sport+), voice recognition, distance control and satellite navigation.

The latest Sorento is superbly nice and a satisfying family SUV to drive.  Rivals that you may also like to consider would be the Skoda Kodiaq, Haval H9, Mazda CX-9 or CX-8, or Hyundai’s Santa Fe.
