2021 Hyundai Kona N

2021 Hyundai Kona N

The latest Hyundai Kona N comes as no surprise as we continue to see a sports orientated model filling the Hyundai range on a regular basis.  More power, better stability and ride comfort, and great all round small-family SUV practicality give the new Kona N-Line a potential leg-up over the competition.

There are two Hyundai Kona models with the N-Line spec, the Premium N-Line boasting a few more high-end features.  The N-Line detailing does give both Kona N lines a bit of a lift, adding a thicker side skirt, lower front air dam, wider wheels and N-Line badging, which all has the N models looking their best.  Inside, the N-Line décor is lovely.

Expect to pay around $40k for a new 2021 Hyundai Kona N-Line Auto AWD.  The small 5-Door SUV rides great and offers decent transport for all sorts of commutes.  It has only just finished its recent freshen up, so with the revised 2021 looks, AWD for N Line versions, a new independent multi-link rear suspension, and you have yourself a great drive.  There is definitely a better ride quality over the previous model, thanks to the new independent rear suspension, and the premium N-Line seating does make you feel well looked after riding inside one of these small SUVs.

Hyundai Konas that are not N-Line use a smooth 110 kW/180 Nm 2.0-litre motor, which, in itself, is a great match for these rides.  However, with the N-Line models you get a smaller motor in terms of it being a 1.6-litre petrol, however the Turbo creates more power and torque making it a lot quicker and more responsive.  There is 146 kW of power and 265 Nm of torque on tap with the 1.6-litre turbo, and all the power is delivered analytically through the AWD, seven-speed dual-clutch powertrain.

The cheaper of the two Hyundai N-Line AWD SUVs has a loaded equipment list.  Premium paint is really the only option.  There are handy techie features inside an N-Line cabin, so you’ll find the automatic climate control, GPS, 12V sockets for auxiliary accessories, the 8-speaker stereo with amplifier, audio auxiliary inputs, keyless start, a proximity key fob, wireless charging, Bluetooth communications and electric windows a rather nice start.  You get a premium sound and DAB+ radio quality, along with Smart Device Integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  You also get a smart multifunction display screen and a multifunction steering wheel.  The headlamps are auto, and the hill holding system makes for easy getaways without any embarrassing moments as you set off from a mate’s place who lives on a steep slope.  But really, that’s just the start of it.
