2018 Hyundai i40 Tourer

2018 Hyundai i40 Tourer

Touring in the 2018 Hyundai i40 Tourer makes sense.  On the one hand you have loads of practical space for five grown adults with luggage; and on the other you have all the mod cons for entertaining the crew.  These days the wireless charging, extra USB jacks, and Bluetooth streaming is almost mandatory for the professional exec.  Hyundai makes life easy with hands-free phone communications, and flicking through the apps on your smartphone via the touchscreen makes for easy access into a world of high tech features.

Inside the new Hyundai i40 Tourer there is a sense of occasion.  You feel that you are entering a special cabin with luxurious appointments and elegant style.  Current Hyundai cars are very modern, and the upholstery (accent stitched leather for Premium models and soft touch cloth for Active models) looks classy.  Piano black centre dash fascia panels, and alloy vents, audio and ventilation controls contrast tastefully.  New cars from many car manufacturers are going nuts on ambient lighting which has numerous selections for cabin colour and illumination.  Hyundai have mastered the art of subtle light moods and the result is a selection of very tasteful interior lighting colours.

Hyundai i40 Tourer Active models get features like manual air-conditioning, cloth seating and a set of 16-inch alloys, and not a whole lot more differences from the Premium model.  The truth be told; unless you really want leather instead of cloth seats there isn’t a massive difference between an Active or Premium i40 Tourer.  Both are very well appointed cars with every top feature you’d expect in a classy low-slung touring wagon.  But, there are one or two subtle points of difference.  If you opt for the Premium model you do get features like: 17-inch alloys, LED fog lights, chrome inserts in the door handles, a Premium trim for dash and door inserts, leather seats, heated front seats, a luggage net, a luggage rail, dual-zone climate control, glove box cooling, rain sensing wipers and a panoramic glass sunroof being the main items.  Oh yes, there are one-or-two other fine details like a digital speedometer, automatic tailgate and solar glass.  There you have it: two very fine station wagons.

Under the hood you have plenty of power for a jaunt fully loaded around Australia.  Both the CRDi Diesel and the GDi Petrol motors are willing performers and love to cruise effortlessly at motorway limits.  The Hyundai i40 Tourer happily drops down a gear or two for quick acceleration when needed, and the solid road holding is very satisfying.

So, with the 2.0-litre petrol engine you have a 6-speed automatic which is electronically controlled with a lock up torque converter for putting the power down.  Figures reveal that it is rated at 121 kW at 6200 rpm while maximum torque of 203 Nm is found in the mid-range.  Smooth and refined, the 2.0-litre GDi i40 Tourer is nice to drive and is capable of good fuel economy.

CRDi fans will enjoy 1.7-litre turbo-diesel torque and fuel economy.  This motor runs with the 7-speed dual clutch (dry clutch) gearbox that works seamlessly.  Maximum power is 104 kW at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 340 Nm starts at 1750 rpm.  For a fully loaded wagon the extra torque makes life easy in this tourer.

An outing in the new Hyundai i40 Touring wagon is always going to be a solid choice.  Safety credentials for the 2018 i40 are premium.  The Active model has all of the top safety features of the Premium and comes with a five-star safety record (the highest you can obtain).  Premium models do boast Smart Parking Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and an electro-chromatic mirror.

Make your journey rewarding and life easy with the purchase of a new Hyundai i40 Tourer.
