2018 Hyundai Accent Hatch

Hyundai Accent Hatch 2018

The new 2018 Hyundai Accent Spot Hatch is a very worthy vehicle.  You have yourself a comfortable cabin with all the switchgear laid out nicely and there is plenty of space and mod cons to keep your journey relaxed and entertained.  The price is good, and doesn’t the exterior look sharp?!

It’s a very neatly styled small hatchback with nicely curved lines over the high roofline, which then swoops down over the arrow-shaped nose for excellent aerodynamics.  A big front bumper has joint ownership with the deep air dam to foil the air neatly over-and-around the Accent’s shape.  Smart crease lines in the bonnet give the 2018 Accent a bit more class along with a look of muscle.  The triangular headlights are Peugeot-like in there verve, while in practise they are excellent, strong lights for night driving.  You get a chrome grille that is a classy addition, and down over the Accent’s haunches the hatchback is neatly finished with a neater cut than the outgoing model.  A distinctive rear bumper and taillight design draws admirable comments, while the flowing lines and stylish alloy wheels complete the Accent’s sporty look.  You’ll definitely be driving a handsome hatchback if you cherry-pick a brand new Hyundai Sport Accent.

Inside the interior there is plenty of room for front occupants.  The seats are supportive and good for longer journeys, and drivers get the adjustment for height as well as reach for both the seat and steering wheel.  The layout across the dash is superb and ergonomically very good, and all the switches are handy to the centre console on the dash.  The materials and plastics are of a high quality, though there is a few harder plastics than what Audi would let on-board their A1 or A3.

Well equipped, Hyundai provide their new Accent Sport models with steering-wheel mounted controls for the audio which include the seek-and-skip function.  The Bluetooth hands-free phone system also has its steering wheel mounted controls for the driver to use.  Speed limits these days are governed with fervour, so you’ll be pleased to note that the Hyundai Accent can come equipped with cruise steering wheel controls as standard.  An AM/FM stereo, in-dash MP3 compatible CD player sound system with 6 speakers is standard and it has to be said that the sound emitted is of a decent quality.  All your favourite songs can be played loud and clear.  In this day-and-age where listening to music wherever, and whenever, is the norm; well Hyundai ensures you can keep this up on your travels because the new Accent comes with iPod connectivity, integrated Bluetooth audio streaming and auxiliary input.  Plug your iPod, smartphone or personal music player straight into the audio system and you’re away laughing or should that be singing!

It’ also really easy to stay connected with colleagues, clients and kin.  Bluetooth handsfree is available on the Sport Accent models which means you can safely talk on your phone while driving.  The system in the Accent is driven through the stereo and works with all Bluetooth enabled phones – boasting the ability to answer and end calls using the steering wheel mounted controls.  Keep yourself nicely relaxed with the manual air-conditioning on entry models.  This system comes with a 4-speed blower control.

So, what’s the new Hyundai Accent Sport Hatch like on the road?  Hyundai has provided the option of a six-speed automatic transmission with a sequential manual mode.  Also available is a six-speed manual for those who like to shift along with the left foot action of a clutch.  The auto gearbox is very smooth and efficient and comes equipped with Hyundai’s HIVEC (Hyundai Intelligent Vehicle Electronic Control) feature.  This enables the overdrive and lock-up converter to work collectively for adapting to your own driving style on the day.  Alternatively, the six-speed manual is easy to use.  So, opt for the new Hyundai Sport Hatch, and you get the latest high performance, low emission GDi petrol engine that delivers a nippy 103 kW of power and 167 Nm of torque.  You can easily cruise the motorways, and the new Accent has a comfortable ride which copes very well with bumpy city streets.  The engine is capable of averaging around 6 to 6.5 litres/100 km.  Smooth and comfortable is how you would describe the stable Hyundai Accent’s ride.

As far as safety goes, the Hyundai Accent Sport has been tested and awarded the highest possible safety rating for adult occupant protection in a passenger vehicle: 5-stars.  The Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system detects grip levels on mixed surfaces and applies steering and brake assistance to maintain traction and stability.  If the worst comes to the worst, there are six airbags, along with supportive active front head restraints that actually move up and forward in the event of a rear-end collision.  This helps reduce whiplash.  ISOFIX child seat anchor points are standard on any of the new Hyundai Accent models.

Boot space is a handy 370 litres, which makes this very handy for its class.  It’s not far of a Golf for luggage space while being better than a BMW 1-series Hatch.  But it is well off a new Corolla hatchback – which is arguably in the next size up.  A five year unlimited km warranty is very hard to better on the market.  So do check a new Accent out for yourself.  It might just be what you’re after.
