2018 HSV Chevrolet Silverado

2018 HSV Chevrolet Silverado

Big, mean and proud, the brand new HSV Chevrolet Silverado walks staunch.  Not for the faint hearted the Silverado rides higher than most pick-up trucks/utes on the market.  In fact there is really only the Dodge RAM and the Ford F150 that match it for similar walk-tall dimensions.  Loaded with colossal torque and power, the HSV Chevrolet Silverado in true fashion works hard and plays harder.

Able to kick up dust more than a mile long, you’ll enjoy the way the new Silverado is able to coast over any terrain, whether it be travelling the long, heated Nullarbor tarmac, the deserted, dusty roads to Alice Springs or even flirting the streets to dance the nightlife in Perth.  Riding high in business class, the HSV Silverado enables the driver and occupants to arrive after a long journey in a relatively comfortable state of body and mind.

Pick the LTZ models and luxury is all laid on with an 8.0-inch touch-screen, seven-speaker BOSE sound system, Bluetooth audio streaming, hands-free smartphone integration, voice-activated radio and phone, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, perforated leather-appointed bucket seats, heated and ventilated front seats with 10-way power adjustment and memory, dual-zone climate-control, adjustable pedals, multifunction leather-clad steering wheel with reach/rake adjustment and remote start.  This kind of stuff is the perfect fashion statement.

2018 HSV Chevrolet Silverado Interior

A satisfying thud follows the shutting of the doors, leaving the impression that this is one seriously solid, not to mention, large truck.  Tweaks over the body styling have given the 2018 HSV Chevrolet Silverado plenty of tasteful talking points.  I’ve always loved the stacked front headlights that seem to look you mean in the eye.  The massive grille and bumper overstate the fact that this is one bold, brazen bully with a soft touch.  Nice flared wheel arches are big and overemphasized – just as an HSV big boy should be – while the enormous alloys are set at the end of big chrome side-skirt pipes.

Wide wing mirrors are hugely useful for a great view of what’s being left in your dust, while also providing excellent views for towing.  Capable of towing in excess of 5.0 tonnes without even breaking out in a sweat, this is the machine for towing the circus trailer, the big caravan or twin horse float.  Let’s not forget the massive tray outback which has a slightly tamer 995 kg payload.

Available in a range of colours, I’d have to say the meanest and leanest is the colour Black which shows off the DRLs really nicely.  For now, HSV has announced a five-model Silverado 4×4 Crew Cab line-up opening with the sub-$115K 2500HD WT automatic and also including the $135K 2500HD LTZ, the $140K 2500HD LTZ Midnight Edition and Custom Sport, and the $148K 3500HD LTZ.  Any of these models provide a big muscle statement with loads of luxury features and fine cruising ability.

Even the base model gets all the safety kit you’d expect a machine going for over $100 k.  The entry-level 2500HD WT comes standard with a reversing camera and twin front, side and curtain airbags, plus StabiliTrak stability control with Proactive Roll Avoidance, Traction Control, Electronic Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist.  While not as swish as the LTZ, the entry-level still boasts the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with the 7.0-inch colour touch-screen, six-speaker sound system, USB ports and an auxiliary input jack.  Head outside and walk around the 2500HD WT, and the 18-inch steel wheels with Goodyear Wrangler SR-A LT265/70 R18E all-terrain tyres look perfect (In comparison, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LTZ Custom Sport Edition gets 20-inch polished alloys with LT265/60 R20E all-terrain tyres.).  There’s are a neat pair of Halogen projector headlights, an integrated rear bumper with corner steps, four-inch round chrome side steps, air-conditioning, a Driver Information Centre, tinted windows, remote keyless entry, remote locking tailgate and heated power-adjustable exterior mirrors to complete the picture.  The dark ash with jet black interior accents looks really attractive on the sweet interior design.  A 40/20/40-split front bench seat is handy, and the truck provides seating for six – including the driver.   The dual cab Silverado 2500HD WT does the job nicely as the first cab off the ranks.

Powering all of the HSV Chevrolet Silverado trucks is the 6.6-litre Duramax V8 turbo-diesel.  Pumping out 332 kW of power and a massive 1234 Nm of torque, this energy is harnessed via a rugged, yet refined, Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission.  Any of the HSV Silverados come with a heavy-duty locking rear differential and four-wheel disc brakes.  This is one seriously mean sounding truck that growls with a deep throaty bark.

If you are into serious work and off-roading then the HSV Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LTZ offers a Z71 pack comprising 35mm twin-tube Rancho gas-charged shock absorbers, 33.6mm front stabiliser bar, underbody transfer case shield and hill descent control.  Extra safety kit for the LTZ includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Front/Rear Park Assist, and front fog lights.

If you’ve read this much, then you’ll probably be in the running for a new HSV Chevrolet Silverado one day.  You’ll be stoked with the purchase.
