Citroen love the chunkier look for their new line of cars, and the various models are delightfully cool to look at. There’s no exception to this rule, at least for now, with the addition of the 2019 Citroen C3 model now available. Looking stylish and eye-catching from all angles, the little C3 boasts plenty of airbump panels, coloured inserts ad graphics for a trendy and unique drive.
You won’t find anything else quite like the 2019 Citroen C3 on our roads. For its class the new C3 design is right out there, clearly creating a new path of its own with the intention of capturing the hearts of the new car buyer. You’ll either love the bumpy looking exterior or hate it, but at least this design is fresh, modern and very distinctive; and that’s been the Citroen way. You can opt for your C3 to come without the airbump panels, and this definitely reels the C3 design into a more conventional and conservative look. But, actually, embracing the airbumps I reckon is the way to go. For me, I like the little C3 airbumps because it adds a more chic, charismatic character to the small hatchback. Let’s also remember that they also stop those supermarket trolley scratches and dings from spoiling the paintwork! Nine body colours and three roof colours offer plenty of colour combinations, while the door mirrors, foglight surrounds, airbump and rear quarter panels wear the same colour as the roof.
The new Citroen C3 is a hatchback and comes with five-door configuration. Length comes in at less than 4.0 metres making it a small car that’s perfect for sneaking in-and-out of confined car parking spaces. Open the rear passenger door and the extension is nice and wide for easy access into a rear seat bench that provides reasonable space for two large adults. Knee and head room is tight for big fellas, however, and for six footers the head room is not good on C3 models with the optional glass roof installed. Three kids will easily fit across the back seats, however.
Boot space is good, particularly for the kind of class that the C3 sits in. Around 300 litres is available with the rear seats up. Hooks and tethering points are available in the luggage space. A space saver wheel is present under the floor panel. Fold the rear seats forward, and there is a bit of a lip in the floor but it does mean that you can shove more luggage inside the C3 should the need arise.
C3 interior design is quirky and different, and again there is lots of nice detailing like plenty of rectangular shapes running right throughout the cabin which look cool and fashionable. There are four different interior trim colour schemes that add to the chic C3’s unique flavour. Plenty of plastic surfaces are about the cabin, which reflects the reasonable price that a new Citroen C3 can be bought for. Options are available for snazzing up your C3. The ‘Urban Red’ package combines dark and bright colours with red stitching and surrounds. Or there is the ‘Hype Colorado’ package which uses softer, upmarket materials, special upholstery and a leather-covered steering wheel. So as far as design-and-style scope goes, the 2019 C3 has it all in spades!
One pretty cool feature that the C3 has is an inbuilt dash cam which is always recording. The $600 Citroen ‘ConnectedCam’ is an on-board HD camera that acts as a dashcam but allows users to upload photos and videos from their trips away. What a cool modern feature! So, if you have an accident then the dash cam records the proceedings. Other C3 techie gizmos include a 7.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Standard safety equipment includes front, side and curtain airbags, lane departure warning, driver attention alert and traffic sign recognition. In the not too distant future the C3 will also come equipped with emergency braking detection systems.
Out on the road the C3 hatchback is really comfortable and relaxed. You will appreciate the refined suspension that soaks up all the road undulations with ease. It is a bit roly-poly through the corners but that will not matter if you don’t drive like a Formula One driver.
Here in Australia the 2019 Citroen C3 is offered with just the one powertrain option, and that is the 81 kW/205 Nm 1.2-litre PureTech turbo-petrol, three-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels via a six-speed Aisin-sourced automatic transmission. All-in-all this is a pleasant enough combination with good response and excellent fuel economy.
You can find yourself inside a brand new C3 for around the mid-twenty mark. Renault’s new Clio might be a smidgeon cheaper, while Peugeot’s 208 is about the same price. Citroen offers a five year/unlimited km warranty for the C3, with five years of roadside assistance included; and that’s pretty impressive.
