Volkswagen Golf VW Reviews

Model Update

Only recently, Volkswagen have added the new Volkswagen Golf Wagon to the range. If you need that extra bit of room the VW Golf Wagon may be the model of choice for a number of you. However, for the rest of you the Golf hatch is the one for you. It remains one of the best hatches in its class, with build quality and efficient engines. Incidentally, the hatch and wagon versions have had a power upgrade, too.

Engines available for the Golf Wagon match the same engines used in the 90TSI, 77TDI, 118TSI and 103TDI hatch models. Punchy engines that are frugal on fuel are hard to come by – until you drive a Volkswagen Golf, that is. Impressive engines, and excellent handling dynamics, make the fabulous 2011 Volkswagen Golf a joy to live with.

Classy exteriors, and near perfect interiors, mean that the new Golf is a refined drive. Features like a height adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, Bluetooth hands-free communication, and an MP3 compatible RCD310 audio system are some of the items to look out for.

Essentially a Golf is Volkswagen’s compact 5-door hatchback. And it’s a popular vehicle that has been around for a long while, now. Recently, Volkswagen have added the Golf Wagon to the line-up, so you are spoilt for choice with the numerous trim levels, and range of engine power-plants to tantalise the driver’s right foot.

With some new engines and some boosts in power gains, the Golf is sprightly, extremely robust and reliable. A VW 77 kW petrol engine is found in the Volkswagen Golf 77TSI, which is the base model in the range. A 90 kW petrol engine is found in the Trendline Golf models, and it is a great engine for the owner who requires a no fuss and hardworking motor that returns endless, efficient, and trouble free, miles of motoring. The Volkswagen Golf 77TDI is equally as reliable, and offers oodles of low down torque and fuel efficiency. The difference is in the fuel type, as this one is a diesel, and is also highly fuel efficient. The 103TDI motor runs a beefed up version of the 2.0 litre engine used in the 77TDI. With a few more horses under the bonnet, you can perform the 0-100 km/h dash in under 10 seconds without any sign of a sweat. A high performance diesel engine is offered in the Golf GTD (hatch only). 125 kW of power and 350 Nm of torque are available on the Sport TDI. Models with the 118TSI petrol engine are very smooth and punchy, while the 155 kW VW Golf GTI (hatch only) motor is a peach, and allows the driver plenty of responsive squirts of engine power when required. Slip yourself into the petrol powered Volkswagen Golf R (hatch only) and the AWD 188 kW is all raw turbocharged power. Let your hair down and fly! The 0-100 km/h sprint times of under 7 seconds make it the outright performer in the Golf line-up. Both the GTi and R models have outstanding handling and very quick motors, making them incredibly fast on any given road surface, and under any weather conditions. The slight edge obviously goes to the more powerful AWD Volkswagen Golf R.

Five and six speed manual gearboxes are slick and robust. There is also and automatic six-speed gearbox option available for review too. The flyers in the Golf line-up herald the sequential seven speed DSG gearbox.

Not only has the Volkswagen Golf got clean lines and excellent features, you have plenty of comfort and features like a sunroof, air conditioning, powered windows and electric door locks. Leather seats, that are electrically adjustable, are a great addition as an optional extra. A high quality AM/FM audio system, with a CD player and an optional navigation system, make the VW Golf a fun driving experience. Ample leg and head room, not to mention luggage space are the best in its class. Classy cabins boast class-leading refinement. And ride comfort sets the golf apart from rivals, as well.

Volkswagen doesn’t take a back seat with the Volkswagen Golf and its safety features, either. A few of the safety items include, driver and passenger front airbags, ABS Anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control. The systems monitor all aspects of the vehicles tyres and brakes to ensure that you have the proper traction when, and where, you need it.

With years and years of experience, and world renowned reliability, the VW Golf provides dependable and stylish transport. This is why the Volkswagen Golf remains one of the best selling Volkswagens today. And it’s little wonder that so many of the Golf buyers keep coming back for the next model in the range so we hope you enjoyed this VW Golf review!
