Want to go to another world? Granted space flight isn't quite there yet for the general public, the closest second would be the Mercedes-Benz CL500 coupe.
With a starting price of over $300,000, the CL500 is quite a performer - and definitly not for the faint hearted! Sleekly designed, the exterior captures both elegance and speed, and marries them both into one of the most beautiful automotive designs on the planet.
Under the bonnet is a creamy engine that, when opened up on the motorway, pumps out a massively exciting 530 Nm of torque and 285 kW. Here we are talking about a V8 that exudes effortless pace and towering grunt. The 0-100 km/h sprint is dispatched in a scintilatingly quick 5.4 seconds and in sheer opulence. The CL500 comes with a standard 7-speed automatic that is a high quality unit specially designed to cope with the immense power of the engine.
The CL500 is one of just a few cars in the world that is a true pillar-less 2-door hardtop. The doors, if not closed all the way, will automatically close themselves; the windows will also retract and then rise to form a good seal. Wood and leather abound inside the interior of the Mercedes-Benz CL500, just as one would expect. The seats are very comfortable with a wide range of 14 adjustments and, for more voluptuousness, the rear seats are equally comfortable and can accommodate two adults easily. There is a navigation system that is DVD based. There are hidden cassette and CD/DVD players that appear at the touch of a button. All controls are easily accessible and stylish, adding to the heart-pumping action the CL500 delivers. There is quite a host of options available, like a comfort package that adds active ventilation and massage to the front seats, a heated steering wheel and Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control that uses radar to set a distance from the car in front. There is even a Parktronic System which uses sonar to warn you when you're getting too close to an obstruction while you're parking. Neat, huh?
The Mercedes-Benz CL500 may have a hefty price tag, but, boy, it is quite an auto for the price.
