VF Commodore Ute

The nicest ute you that can buy for getting your work done has rolled off the showroom floors. And it’s one of ours! Holden’s latest VF Ute has the attractive style to set it above the competition, and if you really have no need of 4WD, then the VF Ute’s the one for you.

Holden tells us that the new VF Ute has been relentlessly tested for over one million test kilometres. That’s a real confidence booster to know that the Ute you want to buy will be duty-bound to perform for many hundreds of thousands of kilometres from the day you first buy it. Truly a strong machine, the feeling of solid Australian build quality is evident in the VF Ute’s ability to handle all the tough Australian conditions that you care to throw its way. Having been created in-and-for Australian conditions, it’s little wonder that the new Holden VF Ute is the perfect ute for Holden. With Ford’s chopping of the Falcon range, the outlook for the Commodore VF Series, including the ute, looks very bright.

As far as Utes go, the Holden VF Ute looks beaut. Essentially, the front end of VF ute features the same graceful and elegant appearance of the Commodore VF Sedans and Sportwagons. Out the rear, a lovely long deck is capable of carrying plenty of different loads depending on the line of work you might be into. Of course there is always the need for some R&R, so the VF Ute has more than enough space outback to take the dirt bikes or jet ski out for the weekend. Your summer weekends never looked better!

Driving the new Holden VF Ute is a sensational experience. Not only are the looks eye-catching, but on the road the blend of power, handling and comfort don’t come any better in a low-profile, sports ute equivalent. You’ll find top-end technology in the VF Ute’s drive that you won’t be able to get your mitts on in many modern passenger cars. A lot of the latest technology that has been put into the VF Sedans and wagons sits inside the VF Ute. So, on the road, the VF Ute is fast, sure footed and fun to drive.

Three engines are available for powering the Holden VF Ute, and all are capable of exciting acceleration. Handling dynamics cope superbly with the power, while the brakes find plenty of grip in the chassis to bring the VF Ute to a standstill in an emergency stop. You may be aware that the VF Ute holds the fastest lap time at the Nurburgring for its class. Take a look at our Private Fleet blog section for a read up on how Holden tamed the Nurburgring (July 2013 blogs) in the SS-V Redline ute.

To start the Holden VF Ute range, the 3.6-litre SIDI V6 Ute packs smooth, responsive power. Never short of breath, the 210 kW V6 has more than enough grunt for towing heavy loads or cruising between States. You’ll find the 350 Nm at 2800 rpm perfect for slipping past slower traffic. And on more than one occasion on your drive to work, you’ll enjoy letting the engine spin freely through the revs. I’m an auto fan, so the six-speed automatic transmission is the one for me. However, a six-speed manual transmission is also available.

It’s great to see that Holden understand that most people enjoy more than the bare essentials in a fully functional prototypical work ute. Buy into a VF Ute base model, and features like Bluetooth with Enhanced Voice Control, Full iPod integration, an automatic release for the electric park brake and Remote Vehicle Start are standard items. Other options that are standard on higher equipped VF Ute models include a reversing camera, Auto Park Assist and front/rear parking sensors to make the drive more sophisticated. Add to this the MyLink infotainment system with its eight-inch hi-resolution colour screen, embedded app technology including Pandora and Stitcher SmartRadio and Siri Eyes Free integration, and you really do see why the new Holden VF Ute is one of the most comfortable utes you can currently buy.

Want a more sport enhanced drive? A new Holden VF Ute SV6 is priced a little over $32 k and boasts more sporty styling, LED DRLs and projector headlights plus sports seats inside. Extras for the SV6 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, the FE2 sports suspension, limited slip differential (manual transmission), Blind Sport Alert and Reverse Traffic Alert.

If you can get into any of the SS versions of the Holden Commodore VF Ute (SS, SS-V, SS-V Redline), you run the Commodore Ute with the powerful V8 engine that is available in two semblances. The SS model is priced around $38,990 and runs the 6.0-litre Gen IV V8 engine with specifications which are the same as the SV6.

Next up is the VF Holden Commodore Ute SS V-Series which is a little more expensive, but very competitive, and adds 19-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, satellite navigation and a colour mutli-function driver information display. The Redline model is all-out performance and is second only to an HSV Maloo.

Holden has added lots of extra technology for making the Ute very capable in the work place. Reversing cameras are available on all models, while the Trailer Sway Control, electric park brake with automatic release and Hill Start Assist are very handy features when the going gets a whole lot more demanding.

If you need to make your business stand out, then driving a new VF Holden Commodore Ute is an easy way of accomplishing this. The current model series includes the:

  • VF Ute SS
  • VF Ute SS-V
  • VF Ute SS-V Redline
