{"id":7989,"date":"2017-10-11T07:46:33","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T21:46:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/?p=7989"},"modified":"2020-06-20T00:36:37","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T14:36:37","slug":"australias-solar-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/australia\/australias-solar-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia&#039;s Solar Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_7990\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7990\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7990\" src=\"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/solar-race-2-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7990\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Solar Race Car<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The \u2018Nuon Solar Team\u2019 continues to dominate the solar race across Australia that started in Darwin and will finish in Adelaide.\u00a0 Racing without conventional combustion engines, the various teams from around the world converged on Darwin having built their vehicles as completely solar-powered electric machines.<\/p>\n<p>There are three categories that are completing the journey.\u00a0 The first being the quickest team to complete the 3000 km race distance \u2013 this race is known as the \u2018Challenger Class\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The second class is the known as the \u2018Cruiser Class\u2019, where there are points given to the teams for the number of passengers on board, the amount of energy that they are using in terms of the number of battery recharges that are occurring throughout the journey and the general practicality of the car.\u00a0 Being a part of the \u2018Cruiser Class\u2019, the points aren\u2019t all about speed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7994\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7994\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7994\" src=\"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/solar-race-cruiser-class-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7994\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Solar Race Cruiser Class<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Finally, the third category is known as the \u2018Adventure Class\u2019 which is the non-competitive class, allowing cars built for previous races of the event to run again &#8211;
