{"id":4471,"date":"2014-10-06T06:43:02","date_gmt":"2014-10-05T20:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/?p=4471"},"modified":"2020-06-20T01:19:18","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T15:19:19","slug":"the-latest-crop-of-record-breakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/home\/the-latest-crop-of-record-breakers\/","title":{"rendered":"The Latest Crop Of Record Breakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I came across a copy of the 2015 Guinness Book of Records in the library the other day.\u00a0 2015.\u00a0 Either Guinness Publishing uses a peculiar sort of calendar or my local library has a time machine sitting out the back somewhere.\u00a0 Alternatively, the concept of L-space that interconnects all libraries and bookshops throughout time and space from Terry Pratchett\u2019s Discworld is true.\u00a0 But anyway, these official record books often have some fun automotive, transport and car-related records, so without any further speculations, let\u2019s have a look at some of the latest beauties showcased.\u00a0 Might win you a bet or two at the pub.<\/p>\n<p><b>Country producing the largest number of cars in one year:<\/b> China. No surprises here, really.\u00a0 The majority of cars are made in this country now, even marques you usually think of as being European.\u00a0 However, the European car manufacturing industry is far from dead: Germany holds the Number 3 spot behind Japan.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4473\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/chery-cars-at-factory.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4473\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4473\" alt=\"Red Cherys ripe for the picking, fresh off the factory floor.\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/chery-cars-at-factory.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4473\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red Cherys ripe for the picking, fresh off the factory floor.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Largest producer of vehicles:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/car-reviews\/toyota\/\">Toyota <\/a>\u00a0managed to break General Motors\u2019 77-year run back in 2008 and the two companies have been fighting it out for top spot ever since. Toyota is the current record holder\u2026 at least according to the official book.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tightest parallel parking of two cars:<\/b>\u00a0 Two Chinese drivers parked their cars in a space that was just 42 cm longer than the combined length of their cars.\u00a0 The make and model of the cars is unknown, but I\u2019m guessing they were little hatchbacks.<\/p>\n<p><b>Biggest engine in a current production car:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/car-reviews\/chrysler\/ \">Chrysler\u2019s <\/a>SRT Viper has a whopping 8.39-litre V10 powerplant. This adds up to 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.\u00a0 This vehicle can do the 0\u201360 mph sprint in less than 3.5 seconds (the official Chrysler website claims \u201clow threes\u201d).
