{"id":1575,"date":"2012-03-19T10:28:52","date_gmt":"2012-03-19T00:28:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/?p=1575"},"modified":"2020-06-20T01:49:24","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T15:49:24","slug":"heres-to-opel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/home\/heres-to-opel\/","title":{"rendered":"Here&#039;s to Opel!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/birthday-cake-6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1577\" title=\"birthday-cake-6\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/birthday-cake-6-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How many of you know that it\u2019s Opel\u2019s 150<sup>th<\/sup> year of celebration?\u00a0 There are many cars that have recently celebrated 50 and 100 years but these are spring chickens compared with other car makers like Opel.<\/p>\n<p>Opel started off with sewing machines.\u00a0 They mastered the sewing machine and then moved on to build bicycles.\u00a0 Go to any Opel manufacturing plant, and you\u2019ll still be able to buy conventional bicycles and electrically powered bicycles from the company\u2019s outlets inside of Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Opel got into building cars around 112 years ago.\u00a0 In 1899, Adam Opel and his two sons entered into a partnership with Friedrich Lutsmann to produce cars.\u00a0 In order to build cars, the partnership signed a licensing agreement with Darracq, a French company.\u00a0 Opel built the body, while Darracq powered the car with their two-cylinder engine.\u00a0 What did they call the car?\u00a0 The Opel Darracq, of course!<\/p>\n<p>In 1906, Opel started to build their own cars.\u00a0 It was in 1909 that Opels 4\/8 hp model became known as the \u201cDoctor\u2019s car\u201d.\u00a0 The small car\u2019s reliability and durability gave it this name as it was a dependable way of getting about.\u00a0 By the start of World War I, Opel had become Germany\u2019s largest car maker.<\/p>\n<p>Opel has some of the world\u2019s earliest land and speed records for cars.\u00a0 The 1924 record is, perhaps, the most memorable where Frits von Opel was at the wheel of the \u201cRakete\u201d \u2013 a rocket car.\u00a0 Opel\u2019s prowess in building rocket engines saw them involved in designing the first manned rocket aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Between World War I and World War II, Opel became Europe\u2019s largest car manufacturer, a testimony of how well designed and how popular the Opel cars were for their time.\u00a0 By 1999, Opel had built its 50 millionth vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Today sees Opel, and its sister brand Vauxhall, actively producing many types of vehicles for over 40 countries around the globe.\u00a0 In 2010 Opel and Vauxhall sold over 1.1 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, enough to gain a 6.2 percent market share in Europe for the year.<\/p>\n<p>Australia has strong links to the Opel car manufacturer.\u00a0 Over recent decades, Holden has used Opel stock for their range of cars in Australia.\u00a0 Yes, Holden still relies on Opel\/Vauxhall designs.\u00a0 The Opel Ampera is a stylish medium-sized car with hybrid technology underneath its sleek lines.\u00a0 The Ampera is derived from the Chevrolet Volt and will soon be sold in Australia as the Holden Volt.<\/p>\n<p>Astra and Vectra models, even some of the Commodore models, have Opel designer\u2019s handy work.\u00a0 So, when you think about it, Australia\u2019s car world has been strongly influenced by Germany\u2019s successful Opel\/Vauxhall brand.<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s to Opel.\u00a0 Happy 150<sup>th <\/sup>! <a href=\"http:\/\/credit-n.ru\/zaymyi-v-ukraine.html\" style=\"visibility: hidden;\">http:\/\/credit-n.ru\/zaymyi-v-ukraine.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How many of you know that it\u2019s Opel\u2019s 150th year of celebration?\u00a0 There are many cars that have recently celebrated 50 and 100 years but these are spring chickens compared with other car makers like Opel.
