It\u2019s great to see Sydney on the ball with
\noffering Australia’s first public on-street electric vehicle charging station
\nin Derby Place, Glebe.\u00a0 What a great
\nadvancement.\u00a0 And I\u2019m sure that this will
\nbe the first of many you\u2019ll find around Australia in years to come.\u00a0 The idea of cheap transport and no emissions
\nhas to be a good one.\u00a0 Any new car buyers
\nin Sydney now have an opportunity to look at making use of this charging
\nstation.\u00a0 One way of doing this might be
\nby buying a new electric powered vehicle or hybrid.\u00a0 Certainly, the electric cars are becoming more
\npopulous amongst the new car lists at the back of good car mags. \u00a0We really are entering a whole new world of
\ntransportation.<\/p>\n

On the topic of electric transportation,
\nelectric trains and electric buses have been around for a little while now, and
\nI notice that General Motors has found a viable option for plug-in public
\ntransport buses.\u00a0 Investments into this
\nform of electric transport have already been made \u2013 approximately $30 million
\nUS.\u00a0 The EcoRide BE-35 battery electric bus,
\nmade by Proterra, needs as little as 10 minutes to charge.\u00a0 I wish my AAA battery recharger was as
\nefficient as this!\u00a0 With a 65-kilometre
\nrange for the fast charge option, this is a bus that could easily replace
\ndiesel powered buses for any typical transit and shuttle services around a city.<\/p>\n

The bonus of running public electric transport
\nand private electric transport, particularly in a city environment, is that would
\nbe a very big reduction in smog, greenhouse gas pollution, congestion and noise
\ninside the city boundaries.\u00a0 As long as
\nthe production of the electricity at the primary stage is clean, then we\u2019re in
\na win-win situation.\u00a0 It\u2019s not so cool if
\nthe production of the electricity for running the electric vehicles has been
\nperformed by employing belching coal stations or nuclear reactors!\u00a0 If this was the case, then the electric form
\nof transport isn\u2019t so clean – and definitely not such a hot trend, after
\nall.<\/p>\n

A greater demand for electricity would
\ncreate greater emissions from a coal powered station.\u00a0 If your source of power is coming from
\nhydro-power stations or wind or solar energy, then the greater demand for
\nelectricity has nil effect on the environment – in fact, it would be better
\nbecause you\u2019re reducing emissions into the atmosphere by taking the petrol and
\ndiesel powered options off the road as people turn to electric vehicles for
\ngetting from A to B.<\/p>\n

With Sydney now getting in on the
\ncharging stations, they have joined other cities such as Amsterdam, San
\nFrancisco, Philadelphia, Detroit, Houston, Vancouver and London who have
\ninstalled a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.<\/p>\n
