{"id":1012,"date":"2011-07-04T14:58:48","date_gmt":"2011-07-04T04:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/?p=1012"},"modified":"2020-06-20T01:54:41","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T15:54:41","slug":"what%e2%80%99s-cooking-at-the-nurburgring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.privatefleet.com.au\/blog\/home\/what%e2%80%99s-cooking-at-the-nurburgring\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s Cooking At the Nurburgring?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lately, there has been a number of interesting lap times set at the famous N\u00fcrburgring circuit. \u00a0I\u2019ll let you in on a few of these.\u00a0 I\u2019m guessing you know where the N\u00fcrburgring is, so I won\u2019t diverge onto whereabouts it is and onto its interesting history info. Google it if you\u2019re not sure.<\/p>\n<p>One of the quickest everyday production cars to have completed the N\u00fcrburgring has been the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI prototype.\u00a0 In the hands of the rally legend Tommi M\u00e4kinen, the WRX was flung around the circuit in a very slick 7 minutes and 55 seconds. \u00a0This was, at the time, the quickest production sedan to date.\u00a0 Who did it beat?\u00a0 Subaru was able to edge out the mighty quick Porsche Panamera Turbo, which clocked a (still unofficial) 7 minutes and 56 second lap time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/subaru-wrx-copy.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1013 aligncenter\" title=\"subaru wrx \" src=\"http:\/\/blog.privatefleet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/subaru-wrx-copy.png\" alt=\"The new WRX winging it on the corner at Nurburgring.\" width=\"293\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWhat about the quickest front-wheel-drive production car, to date?\u00a0 Again, in the hands of an expert, the Renault Megane Sport has the quickest time for the track at 8 minutes 7.97 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>So who is the quickest at \u2018The Ring\u2019?\u00a0 The car comes from the USA, and is none other than the very potent 2012 Corvette ZR1 prototype.\u00a0 What I like about this car is that it is not a jazzed up race car, <em>per se<\/em>.\u00a0 As it is a production going car, the<br \/>\nphenomenally quick lap time of 7 minutes and 19 seconds is incredible.<\/p>\n<p>Not far off the Corvette\u2019s pace is the Nissan GTR.<\/p>\n<p>Just recently Lexus powered their 24 Hr race car: the Lexus LFA around the track to keep Corvette honest. \u00a07 minutes and 22 seconds isn\u2019t that much slower than the time set in the production Corvette ZR1.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I\u2019ve always enjoyed seeing how my favourite cars get around the N\u00fcrburgring.\u00a0 If you\u2019re interested<br \/>\nyou might like to take a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/bridgetogantry.com\/2\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=178:fastest-lap-of-the-ring&amp;catid=57:laptimes-and-private-events&amp;Itemid=300090\">N\u00fcrburgring web page.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wonder what sort of time an FPV or HSV machine would set for getting around the Ring.\u00a0 In my hands<br \/>\nit would be a little slower, however in the right hands they would probably give a few of the top sedans a run for their money.<\/p>\n<p>A great You Tube watch is Russia\u2019s version of how Top Gear should be done.\u00a0 They were able to take an<br \/>\nautomatic version of Hyundai\u2019s rear-wheel-drive Genesis 3.8-litre V6 Coupe around the N\u00fcrburgring \u2013 and pass some quick Porsche GT3 cars along the way.<\/p>\n<p>If you are keen on seeing how quick your car is, why don\u2019t you get in touch with your local race circuit and arrange a time to smoke your wheels over their tarmac, so to speak.<br \/>\nThey are generally more than happy to accommodate a few hot laps in a time that suits their schedule.\u00a0 Besides,<br \/>\neveryone needs to experience how to control a slide; wouldn\u2019t you say? <a href=\"http:\/\/credit-n.ru\/offers-zaim\/denga-zaimy-nalichnimi.html\" style=\"visibility: hidden;\">http:\/\/credit-n.ru\/offers-zaim\/denga-zaimy-nalichnimi.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lately, there has been a number of interesting lap times set at the famous N\u00fcrburgring circuit. \u00a0I\u2019ll let you in on a few of these.\u00a0 I\u2019m guessing you know where the N\u00fcrburgring is, so I won\u2019t diverge onto whereabouts it is and onto its interesting history info.
