Model Update
They’re big. They’re powerful. And they are so luxurious and nice to drive. These Mercedes Benz M-Class vehicles are special, and must come close to being the best in their class. I guess it comes down to the buyer’s impressions. But for total luxury and class, the very practical and capable M-Class is a winner.
All M-Class models offer permanent AWD, big rubber and massive internally ventilated disc brakes for immense stopping power. Inside the engine bay it’s out with the old and in with the new. You can opt for many new engines that boast a big hike in power and a much lower overall fuel consumption.
The newly tweaked design is smoother and more aerodynamic. In fact the CDI models have a Cd of 0.34. You’ll love the bigger, voluptuous feel to the superbly innovative and classy new interior. So nice to sit in, the journey is always a pleasure.
Boasting serious practicality, you can head off on any adventure with 500-litres of boot space with the seats up and 2050-litres seats folded down. And don’t forget, these engines offer serious torque to tow a trailer or caravan, too.
There are four-wheel-drives, and then there are four-wheel-drives. The latest Mercedes Benz M-Class sits at the top of the tree for fabulous off-road ability and effortless, comfortable touring. Sitting inside one of these is like taking a seat in business class on a plane. It’s all laid on.
Mercedes Benz interiors have always been something special. Inside the Mercedes Benz M-Class you’ll find electric reclining seats, which if you choose, can be heated. If you enjoy 4x4 action while being seated in an interior with all the high quality appointments like full leather, Burr walnut wood trim, an upper dashboard trimmed in ARTICO man-made leather, the Mercedes Benz M-Class is the one for you.
Nice touches like a compass; THERMOTRONIC multi-zone luxury climate control; DVD navigation; television; MP3, WMA and AAC file compatibility; an SD card slot with 4GB memory are on hand. You can also enjoy keeping in touch with friends via the Mercedes Benz M-Class Bluetooth telephone connectivity. The luxury pack includes some awesome 20-inch 5 twin-spoke alloy wheels, electrically folding exterior mirrors and LINGUATRONIC voice activation for the central communications system.
If you are interested in the big M-class, there are a number of engines that can power the high-tech 4WD system. Smooth and efficient, the ML 300 CDI diesel has a six-cylinder, 150 kW, 500 Nm, seven-speed automatic power house. Fuel efficiency for this model works out to an average of 9.2 litres/100 km.
Powerful and refined, the ML 350 boasts a six-cylinder petrol with 200 kW, 350 Nm and a seven-speed automatic. Step up to a ML 350 CDI diesel model, and you have a six-cylinder, 170 kW, 540 Nm, seven-speed automatic package to play with. Fuel economy remains, on average, at around 9.5 litres/100 km.
If performance is what you’re after, then the ML 500 has it. With an 8-cylinder, 285 kW, 530 Nm, seven-speed sportshift automatic drive train, you’ll be loosening up the dirt – no doubt!
Peak performance is found in the ML 63 AMG. This swanks an eight-cylinder, 375 kW, 630 Nm, seven-speed automatic sportshift drive train.
Each M-Class Mercedes model has permanent AWD. Traction on and off the road is very impressive, while the big machine is very capable at covering the intercity distances in no time at all – just don’t get pinged with a speed camera – no best use the cruise control to keep yourself legal. All of the M-Class machines weigh in at over two tonnes, so the ride is very smooth. Amazingly every model can sprint from 0-100 km/h in under 8.5seconds - with the AMG model performing the dash in only 5.0 seconds flat. Wow!
Safety is premium. Front airbags, side-bags in front and rear, windowbags, a knee airbag for driver, an anti-lock braking system, NECK-PRO active head restraints, Brake Assist, PRE-SAFE accident anticipatory occupant protection, a retaining net for luggage, a Downhill Speed Regulation system, ESP and a rain sensor for the windscreen wipers. I think you’ll get the picture that when you buy a Mercedes Benz M-Class, you buy the best.
The current model series includes the:
· ML 300 CDI
· ML 350
· ML 350 CDI
· ML 500
