The Mercedes Benz CLC 200 is a sports coupe with distinction. Like the star of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Ian Thorpe, the Mercedes Benz CLC 200 performs faultlessly under pressure. Ian Thorpe’s speed through the water was, perhaps, at its most exciting when in the 4X100 relay. Thorpe moved up through the field on the last leg to take gold. The CLC200 certainly leads its rivals in all of the important automotive disciplines that really matter.
Like success, power starts from within. Under the bonnet of the CLC 200 lies a 2.0 litre, Kompressor engine that boasts 135 kW of power and a maximum of 250 Nm of torque. The muscle that the car offers the driver is quite astounding, particularly when 250 Nm of torque rides over a very broad 2800 – 5000 rpm. Acceleration is therefore very brisk, and the 0-100 km/h dash is completed in only 8.6 seconds.
The car feels very quick, and the grip levels are superb. Body control remains steady, and the way the car can pelt through the corners is very impressive. The rear wheel drive set up provides accurate and responsive steering. Fat tyres give the car a vivid grip on the road ahead. The front tyres are 225/45 R17, and the rear tyres are massive 245/40 R17 in their size. Mercedes have kept the CLC 200 electronically controlled to 210 km/h. The car is capable of much more than this, however the German engineers like to provide optimum safety for all of the general public.
With the open road is mastered, you will find that the 10.76 m turning circle allows the Coupe to provide nimble city driving as well. The chassis and suspension layout is taut, as one would expect, however the car never feels too harsh when travelling down undulating city streets. The safety concept at Mercedes-Benz supports the driver, even during critical driving situations. Its active safety systems include the Electronic Stability Program, the anti-lock braking system and Brake Assist, which activate in cooperation when necessary. If the car is in danger of skidding, ESP can apply the appropriate braking force to individual wheels and adjust the engine output. ABS ensures that the vehicle remains steerable during emergency braking. BAS recognises emergency braking by the speed with which the brake is applied and, in this case, instantly builds up the maximum braking force, thereby helping to reduce the stopping distance. The car is loaded with passive safety features too. Standard equipment for the CLC includes two-stage front airbags, side-bags in the front and window-bags in the front. Side-bags for the rear are available as an option. All seats are fitted with 3-point seat belts and head restraints. Belt tensioners on the front and rear seats pull the belts taut against the body in the event of a frontal or rear-end collision of a given degree of severity.
Inside one of the world’s classiest interior designs, you will find plenty of goodies to pamper our friends and family with. So, to look the best, you also need to drive the best. The elegant Mercedes Benz CLC200 offers you an affordable, luxury packed sporty drive.
