Model Update
So, like me, perhaps you love the C-Class, but would like a racier profile? Mercedes Benz offer the beautiful front end design of the C-class cars and blend it with a two-door waistline and hatchback rear-end package that is named the CLC-Class. The result is a balanced and dynamic drive.
The 4.45 metre long CLC-Class is big enough to turn heads. And with the latest chassis componentry, and all the very best safety features like front airbags that provide head and thorax protection, side and curtain airbags, daytime running lights, ABS and BAS, this is a great classy number.
A luxury seat package with lumbar support, seat cushion angle adjustment and electronic memory function give a nice driving position for what is a car that loves to be driven quickly. There is loads of rear-wheel-drive grip, and the ease with which the Mercedes Benz CLC-Class can be posted through tight corners is a whole load of fun.
Driving a motorcar with a sporty flavour can come in many forms. Many two-door models exist that provide swift and stylish transport. However, the brand new Mercedes Benz CLC-Class provides, what I would consider, the quality test in small Coupe performers.
The vivacity of the Mercedes Benz CLC-Class Sports Coupe is immediately apparent in its design. A sweeping, low profile outline provides a silhouette that gives the impression of plenty of quick, forward motion. The CLC-Class has an elegant face, built with a purpose. A low front air dam with side air inlets and a large Mercedes star in the centre of the wide radiator grille indicate that this car is for the driver. Tasteful use of chrome trim strips on the bumpers, wings, doors and side wall offer a very attractive finish to the Mercedes- Benz CLC-Class vehicles. A high quality paint finish and a premium build quality make this a superior vehicle. Sitting on 17-inch light-alloy wheels highlights the car’s sporty tones.
What is the CLC-Class like inside? Gorgeous leather and high-quality materials make this a sensationally elegant sports car. Interior colour tones are well matched and beautiful. There is a Smart three-spoke steering wheel and sporty instrument cluster.
Standout features are many. A multifunction steering wheel, an anti-lock braking system, a clear AUDIO 20 headunit that includes a keypad for a telephone, a Brake Assist System, cruise control with a SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter function, ESP, front airbags for driver and front passenger, side and window airbags for front and rear occupants, Headlamp Assist and a very good THERMATIC automatic climate control system with dust and activated charcoal filters. Parking the CLC-class is a doodle, as the sporty coupe comes with a special Parktronic system for easy parking in tight situations.
Underway, each of the CLC-Class cars travel in a balanced and responsive manner. The solid Germanic feel to the CLC-Class chassis provides very confident cornering ability and high speed travel. This is, of course, a rear-wheel driven car.
Under the hood is a bullet-proof 1.8-litre engine that provides class-leading power. With supercharging, the CLC-Class is plenty responsive, and pleasantly economical. A 135 kW output gives the car good performance, and whether you choose the six-speed manual or five-speed automatic, the small CLC-class can whisk you from a standstill to 100 km/h in a time of 8.7 seconds.
Truly, sitting back in the Mercedes Benz CLC-Class sports seats is a voluptuous and rewarding experience - one that makes for a completely satisfying drive.
