Just as the day fades and the night lights start to dominate the clear sky, a Mercedes Benz B-Class pulls up the country lane. Crystal coloured headlights shower a spray of powerful light, while the driving lights, set in the low front air dam, stare forcefully and with purpose on the road ahead. Acceleration is gained quickly, and the noise from the new B-Class hatch is hushed. Darting past, the valiant red taillights beam up the surrounding foliage at the side of the road. A new star has arrived for Mercedes, and it’s not found where the top dollars are spent. The Mercedes Benz B-Class sits at the beginning of the uphill climb and, after some time spent with this capable machine, you wonder why you need any of the other versions boasting the desirable three-point-star at a higher price.
Careful design has earned the new Mercedes Benz B-Class plenty of positive feedback. As always the interior is impeccably well crafted, and the dash design is elegant and clear. Round air vents look good across the twin coloured dash. Sophistication is often married with technology, and inside the Mercedes Benz B-Class interior there are loads of the very best gadgets and features you’ll find in any car. Clear and nicely placed in the top-centre of the dash is a multi-media screen, displaying loads of information about your sounds, satellite whereabouts, communications via Bluetooth and more.
High-quality materials set the tone in the interior of the all new B-Class. As an option, the all new B-Class can be equipped with the Exclusive package (not available on the B 180 model) with a typical, premium interior with leather equipment and door centre panels in ARTICO man-made leather.
Not your average hatchback, the Mercedes Benz B 200 and B 200 CDI provide four-way lumbar support for driver and front passenger. Each of the B-Class versions provides loads of storage areas. Need to carry a heap of luggage? You’ll be delighted with the B-Class load compartment which is unrivalled in its class and is height adjustable! 486-litres is available for luggage with the rear seats up. Air-conditioning, auto climate control and a three-spoke luxury multifunction steering wheel with twelve function buttons are great features. Some of the models come with fully electrical front seats with memory and an electronic panoramic sunroof. And for those of you who can’t stand the cold, heated seats for the driver and front passenger are available. The electric seat heating systems have multi-level individual heating. Now that’s comfort!
I love a car with great sounds, and in the new Mercedes Benz B-Class, if you’re anything like me, you’ll love the Harman Kardon surround sound system with Dolby Digital and an output of 450 Watts. What better way to add a bit of spice to the journey – and making great music is such a simple way of entertainment. One thing is for sure, the B-Class will turn your journey into a very special audio experience.
Three engines drive the brand new Mercedes Benz B-Class. The B 180 BlueEFFICIENCY uses a 90 kW, petrol engine with a 1600cc displacement. A punchy 200 Nm is available from as low as 1250 rpm.
Next is the B 200 BlueEFFICIENCY. The 1.8-litre petrol engine puts out 115 kW and 250 Nm from as low as 1250 rpm.
Diesel is the other option, where the B 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is arguably the range topper. All of the three versions are limited to 210 km/h and the two bigger engines can accelerate the B-Class from 0-100 km/h in well under ten seconds.
The current Mercedes Benz B-Class models include the:
· B 180 BlueEFFICIENCY
· B 200 BlueEFFICIENCY
· B 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY
