Take a look inside a Mazda showroom anywhere across Australia, and the Mazda CX-7 quickly captures your attention. Its low profile lines, swooping roofline, and powerful stance echo elegance and class from every angle.
Mazda have provided the SUV in four superb versions. The base model is called the Classic. And this is a well equipped vehicle that is smooth to drive, light on its feet and very comfortable inside.
The Mazda CX-7 Classic Sports and Classic Luxury Sports boast a bit more power over the Classic model. Boasting 175 kW from a 2.2-litre petrol power plant these models are swift and surefooted. The difference between the Classic Sports and Luxury Sports models is in their level of standard equipment.
Topping it all off, your Mazda CX-7 can, alternatively, be powered by the very best diesel technology available. Step into a Mazda CX-7 Diesel, and you have transport that provides a very quiet and powerful diesel experience.
Each Mazda CX-7 has plenty of room in the seats. Bluetooth communications (Hands free), a blackout instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped handbrake handle, a multi information display with satellite navigation, leather seats, 8-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat and a heating function for the front seats are reserved for the Luxury models only. But these items definitely don’t make the premium Mazda CX-7 models all that better. All new Mazda CX-7 machines are effortless to drive, comfortable and well equipped vehicles that promise to be exceptionally nice vehicles to own over a lengthy period.
With a bold, thrilling and muscular external design, the new Mazda CX-7 breaks the mould and sets the standard for an SUV vehicle. The sleek and stylish exterior has been designed with excellent strength and body rigidity. Under the gorgeous bonnet you will find a choice of three excellent engines. And, without a doubt, Mazda engines are some of the most reliable and robust units available. So what’s on offer for the CX-7?
Buy yourself the Mazda CX-7 Classic, and you have a well equipped base model. Inside the engine bay is a 2.5-litre petrol motor that feels very flexible and smooth. One of the joys of this engine unit is the accessible levels of lusty torque low down in the engine revs. With 205 Nm of torque available from 2000 rpm and 120 kW @ 6000 rpm, there is no shortage of strength in the Classic’s performance. The Classic is matched to a five-speed automatic gearbox.
You’ll find that the Mazda CX-7 Classic Sports and Luxury Sports boast very commanding engine response and power. A definite step up in power output ensures that these CX-7 models accelerate quickly off the mark and can carry heavy loads swiftly without fuss. One of the real standout features of this petrol engine is the very smooth performance. Boasting 175 kW at 5000 rpm and a strong 350 Nm of torque you can see how user-friendly the 2.2-litre unit, is. These models put their power through a sporty six-speed sport automatic transmission. And the combination of pace, responsiveness and grip make the Mazda CX-7 a very stable and enjoyable drive
Looking to buy diesel? Then the Mazda CX-7 Diesel is the one for you. Very quiet performance is matched with 127 kW available from as low as 3500 rpm; while the torque is exceptional: 400 Nm from 2000 rpm. This sort of power isn’t too hard on the wallet, either. A combined fuel consumption figure of 7.6 litres/100 km can be expected. Sensibly, Mazda have matched the CX-7 Diesel with a nicely weighted six-speed manual gearbox.
What’s the driving experience like? Well planted on the road, the Mazda CX-7 soaks up road undulations well and keeps road noise well muted. The independent front Macpherson struts and independent multi-link rear suspension do their job nicely. Stopping power is excellent - thanks to a simple yet very effective 4-wheel vented disk brake system that boasts ABS. Dynamic Stability and Traction Control tie up the 1800 kg body mass so that handling and control remains nicely balanced and in control.
In the safety department, there are front SRS air bags with front side impact air bags. Front and rear side impact curtains with rollover protection add to the CX-7’s excellent safety. Other handy safety features include an automatic tire pressure monitoring system, illuminated keyless entry with a panic button and an anti-theft system with engine immobilizer.
Elegant CX-7 interiors are well designed and finished. Their interiors are crafted in luxury and have seating available for five passengers in full comfort. A Mazda CX-7 has many standard luxury items, but for those who like a little more, the very desirable rich leather-trimmed heated seats that can be either six or eight-way adjustable in the front will be appreciated. The lumbar support is brilliant. Also a great optional extra is the premium nine-speaker stereo system with a CD system and audio changer. There is even a DVD navigation system with voice command, and a rear view camera which can increase safety when reversing in tight places. Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, an electric sunroof and Bose Audio sounds create quite a luxury appointment. And there are heaps of accessories to personalise your own Mazda CX-7. Some of the neat accessories include a bike rack for the roof, a roof spoiler, rear seat entertainment (7-inch LCD screens in the back of the front seat headrests can play movies), a cargo tray and an alarm.
The Mazda CX-7 has a base price of around $39,910 which is very unbelievable once you have driven the magnificent Mazda CX-7. Great value and outstanding SUV dynamics, the Mazda CX-7 is a class act.
