Model Update

Just before you read on; there is an all new Hyundai Elantra due in Australia this year. We'll keep you posted. But I can tell you that it looks very nice and sporty, indeed.

The five-star safety award is never given away easily, yet the current Hyundai Elantra recently came up trumps, taking the award with some excellent strength in its safety shell, and superior passive and active safety features doing there stuff. Four wheel disc brakes, ABS, EBS, EBD, TCS and ESP work actively to avoid an accident from occurring, while reinforced body protection, airbags, active head restraints and a Protectz pack enable premium passive safety to protect the Elantra’s occupants in the event of a considerable impact.

I was impressed with the sumptuousness inside the current Elantra. Ergonomic seats are covered with a beautiful cloth trim or leather. Ride comfort is further enhanced with the level of comfort one receives directly from the Elantra seats. Splashes of aluminium about the very smartly dressed cabin give an elegant cabin ambience, and there are plenty of luxury features onboard.

Under the Hyundai Elantra’s bonnet lies a peppy twin overhead cam, 2.0-litre motor that offers a satisfying level of performance and response.

The Hyundai Elantra has come a long, long way since it was first introduced in the early 90's. Back then they were not known for reliability and craftsmanship. Today however, things are considerably different and Hyundai has brought the Elantra out of the ashes like a phoenix rising. The 2007 Elantra is the 4th generation and the best yet produced. The new Elantra has a smooth ride and offers accurate handling, a roomy interior and, surprisingly, a backseat that is capable of carrying three adults comfortably.

Hyundai likes to give their customers plenty of choice, so the Hyundai Elantra comes in three basic trims. The base model SX provides well equipped, solid motoring. Next are the SLX models. These have a considerable list of options inside, and here you have a very competitively priced, well equipped, machine. And finally, there are the top-of-the-line Elite and Elite S models. These brilliant vehicles come with options like heated leather seats, premium audio systems and a trip computer. One thing should be noted, all Hyundai Elantra's come with a sizable list of safety features, like front seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags as well as anti-whiplash front head restraints. The interior is roomy. There has been considerable attention paid to detailing inside the cabin, and this gives rise to the Elantra's impression of class. The gauges and controls are well designed and made, and inside the cabin there are a lot of small storage areas for all those little things we all seem to accumulate on a trip around town or on a weekend away.

The Hyundai Elantra is powered by a very reliable and strong 2.0 litre inline 4-cylinder petrol engine. With an engine like this hiding under the bonnet, you have plenty of good response under your right foot. A Hyundai Elantra always feels willing to be pushed hard, giving a perky, responsive and satisfying drive. The motor is good for 105 kW - which sits well up there in the power stakes for a vehicle of this size and status. Where the Elantra gains extra brownie points is in the handling department. Sharp, crisp acceleration tied to a very stable and entertaining chassis ensures that the new Hyundai Elantra leads the charge against any rival. Add to that, if you're an early morning coffee drinker, a 4 speed automatic transmission or, if you like to do it yourself, a 5- speed manual gearbox and you have a pretty complete medium sized motoring package. You can expect to be impressed with the fuel efficiency of the engine. For you, in today's world, this will mean a sizable savings on your fuel expenditure.

Hyundai is on to a winning formula here. The Hyundai Elantra is one of the least expensive ,and elegantly styled, medium sized performers on the market.
