Holden Cruze

A new 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine sets the Holden Cruze alight.

Model Update

Small to-medium sized cars sometimes handle like porridge in a plate, so what positively sets the 2011 Holden Cruze apart from its rivals is the fluent way in which the mid-class Holden corners and sits firmly planted on the road. Add to this some efficient engines (particularly in the form of the 2.0 litre turbo-diesel and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol), and a nicely laid out cabin, and you have yourself a good driver’s car that has fine value for money, top safety and first-class practicality.

A Holden Cruze comes with six airbags and ESP on every model. The sweetly styled Cruze II is sporty in its looks and dynamic in its handling, while the diesel six-speed automatic model is a gem.

From the brilliant sleek headlights, to the muscly body lines and sporty overtones, this new-kid-on-the-block has plenty of zip and plenty of zest for doing the business in style.

The new Holden Cruze II has large angled lights on its face to give the car an overall impression of purpose and beauty. Delightfully fresh in its new design, the Holden Cruze is appealing on the eye and looks good from every direction. Unique, elegant styling makes a great impression on onlookers, and therefore sets it apart from boring and less-desirable vehicles on the road.

Stand back and admire its curvaceous bodywork, high waistline and slippery skin. The design team have done a first-rate job enabling the Holden Cruze to cut the air open and remain well balanced and unbuffeted on the road at any speed efficiently. Boasting compact and sporty dimensions helps the car sit tight on the road, and the driving enthusiast will enjoy the Cruze’s nimble, and very agile, handling. This is definitely a car that enjoys long journeys and swift driving.

Noticeably roomy, the classy cabin has good levels of space in the front and rear. Build quality is great, and the interior has been well thought out and well put together. Holden has given the Cruze a cabin that is not only aesthetically appealing, it’s is also nice to the touch. Dark overtones are complimented by the use of shiny chrome trim inserts and surrounds. Seating is soft to the touch, while being very supportive and comfortable, and you will have no problems fitting tall people in the rear of this one. In the centre of the dash is an advanced integrated central monitor that displays premium graphics on all important vehicle information. Boasting a CD player and MP3 compatibility, musical sounds couldn’t be more enjoyable.

Holden have equipped the Cruze with a gorgeous steering wheel that is very nice to hold. This is where the piloting of the Holden Cruze starts, and the feel is perfect – the minute you climb aboard. Clean and smart lines make for a simple and beautiful dash design. Blue-lighting is brilliant against the black background and chrome finishings. Important comfort features like air conditioning, steering mounted audio controls, cruise control and a trip computer are standard across the Cruze II range. The Holden Cruze CDX offers the owner French-stitched leather seats that are sporty in nature – to match the car’s theme, heated front seats, rear parking sensors and five-leaf seventeen-inch alloys.

You’ll be pleased to note that ESC, ABS, TC, BA and EBD are standard safety features available on all Holden Cruze models. Six airbags and five-star safety lead the way. An ingenious auto-headlamps feature makes for a very relaxed drive, and the car’s boot space is good – so those weekends away will become an attractive proposition on any spur of the moment whim.

As noted earlier, the outstanding safety features have gained the Cruze an envious five-star safety rating from ANCAP – the first Korean built Holden to do so.

New for the Holden Cruze II is a sparkling 1.4-litre turbo engine fuelled by petrol. The new advanced 1.4 litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder iTi turbo petrol engine, takes sporty driving another step forward. And the clever engine design provides superior performance with an enviable fuel economy of around 6.4 litres/100 km. You can travel up to 1000 km on a single tank. This remarkably quick engine is available on the Holden Cruze CD and CDX, but is standard on the SRi and SRi-V models– unless you opt for the equally superb diesel engine.

All engines are brisk and fluent in response. Fuel efficiency is a must in this day and age, so Holden have come to the party in a great way offering a car that performs well for the enthusiast while still returning very competitive economy figures. Reliable smooth petrol fed 1.8-litre motors are standard on the base model CD versions. Excellent marketing have enabled Holden to offer the sparkling 2.0-litre turbo-diesel on all Cruze models. You must try the smooth, punchy performance of the diesel-donk. This one is a gem. There five-speed manual, six-speed manual and six-speed auto sequential gearboxes offered.
