Slightly more rounded and elegant, the latest version of the Volkswagen Multivan is very modern and upmarket.
Plenty of choice means that you’re going to get the van you’re after. Diesel power comes in the form of a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel unit that produces a hefty 400 Nm of torque. Petrol power has 173 kW on tap. Six-speed automatics and six-speed manuals provide the best performance from the drivetrains.
Step inside, and you are welcomed with an interior that includes features such as three-zone climate-control air-conditioning, six-airbags and a touch screen satellite navigation system (Multivan Highline).
These are some of the best vans on the market, so do check them out before making your final decision.
On the back of a van there was written: Caution – Blind Man Driving. Appropriately, on the side of the van was the advert for the Rochester Venetian Blind Co. You may have heard it said that “a blind man would be pleased to see it”, and often after looking at the bland fridge-like van designs that travel Australian roads today it could be said that a blind man would be pleased to see it!
A stylish van might be a rather scarce sight, however, Volkswagen has made a fantastic effort to change people’s views, and so they have revealed an elegantly designed multipurpose van. Volkswagen has, for many years, developed their line of quality people movers, and their vehicles are designed to move people in superb comfort. They are also capable of colossal cargo carrying capability. Recently they have most definitely taken things a step further with the design of the new Volkswagen Multivan.
The incredible Volkswagen Multivan has good looks and plenty of space. The sweetly crafted front end leads the charge with a very well balanced headlight design that heralds the chrome VW logo in the middle. The nose is sporty in appearance, and boasts an air dam and striking wing mirrors. Walk around to get a side on vantage point, and you quickly notice the very smart alloys complement the sexy wing mirrors. Also evident is the tidy indentations on the sculptured side panels. The attention to detail is exemplary, and there is no bland bodywork on this machine. The side doors are huge. They allow a massive entrance to the Multivan’s very luxurious passenger interior. The hot looks don’t stop there. Walk around to the rear of the VW Multivan, and the Multivan has the nicest rear-end in the business. The large tailgate opens to reveal a very low loading floor – no more lifting heavy objects into the van over excessively high van floors. You will notice that the outline of the rear glass panel has nicely tailored cut-off corners that add to the Multivan’s overall classy look.
Without a doubt, the Volkswagen Multivan does not sacrifice performance for functionality either. The powerful 2.5 litre TDI engine has a wonderfully torquey 128 kW of power. This VW diesel engine is superbly smooth and refined, and it offers very adequate levels of high end performance when required. If you prefer, there is a creamy 3.2 litre V6, 173 kW petrol engine that passes slow traffic with incredible ease. The V6 will help you maintain very swift progress on any open road. The big van’s handling is extremely well controlled – as you would expect from a high end European passenger carrier. Both engines can be linked to very good 6-speed manual or tiptronic transmissions. The Volkswagen Multivan delivers ultimate performance to match its premium level of space and comfort.
You can enjoy the luxo-liner in two variations. The Volkswagen Mulitvan has the Comfortline model and the Highline model. Both models have striking interiors that offer a huge amount of space that enables the driver to carry 7 passengers in absolute comfort. The second row seats are captain’s chairs that can swivel 180 degrees to face the third row seats when necessary. There is a centre console between the 2nd row seats which has a very practical multi-functional table. The table can pivot, contains cup holders, houses an ashtray and boasts storage compartments. Onboard the impressive VW Multivan, there is a 3-zone air conditioning unit, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror, cruise control, classy and convenient grab handles, a superb audio system with security coding and a 6 disc CD changer, eight speakers, a satellite navigation system, electrically heated and adjustable side mirrors and power steering.
Safety features on the Volkswagen Mulitvan include driver and front passenger side and curtain airbags, curtain airbags for the rear, ABS Anti-lock brakes, Anti-slip regulation (ASR), an electronic stabilization program, fully adjustable seatbelts with force limiters and a parking distance sensor to assist with those tight parking spaces.
