Subaru Liberty 2.5i

Give me a Subaru Liberty 2.5i or give me... the wagon variant.

Boxer engines and modern looks to match the world’s best everyday handling package. Now that’s a statement, isn’t it! But after driving the all new Subaru Liberty 2.5i, perhaps you might agree.

Available in sedan and wagon form, the Liberty is a roomy and very safe mid-sized vehicle. Packaging is very good – particularly when the high equipment level complements very comfortable seating that is stylish and impeccably crafted.

Safety is exemplary. Few cars in its class can match the ability of the Subaru Liberty. By law, all new car models must pass certain safety tests before they are sold. But legislation provides a minimum statutory standard of safety for new cars. Subaru goes the extra mile to compete in the toughest crash safety tests available. Results from the Euro NCAP tests and the ANCAP crash tests put the Subaru Liberty right up there in the top level. Five star scorings make the Subaru Liberty 2.5i a very wise choice for the safety conscious. High level safety equipment boasts some seven airbags at the ready, and an advanced, class leading VDC vehicle stability control system. The VDC keeps the dynamics of the Subaru Liberty 2.5i in check wonderfully well. The chassis is taut and the steering very well weighted to make the driver’s car a pleasure to push hard on the road. This sort of road handling is a safety feature in its own right. The agile handling is backed up by strong ABS brakes.

We’ve already discussed the fact that you can buy the reasonably priced Subaru Liberty 2.5i in a sporty sedan guise or in a striking 5-dr wagon form. Let’s take a close look at the interior and powerhouse. Stroll up to the Subaru Liberty 2.5i and open the solid doors. Admire the firm closing of the doors and the tidy join lines of the panelling. Sitting inside the Subaru Liberty 2.5i is a pleasure. The seats are nicely shaped to fit the curves of the human body. The dash is tidy and uncluttered, and there are plenty of high-end appointments. Even the so called “base” models boast an impressive, six-stack in-dash CD player that is MP3 and WMA compatible. Six speakers cast a very flavoursome array of clear musical tones around the cabin. An auxiliary jack is located in the front centre console. Loads of storage areas make the Subaru Liberty 2.5i an excellent family machine. Cup-holders front and rear will ensure any fizzy drinks will be held steady on your journey. The Subaru Liberty 2.5i even comes with an extensive toolkit – a very useful and often overlooked handy feature. Just don’t forget it’s there before you head off to the local hardware store to buy a spanner, screwdriver or plier set. You may already have the necessary tool already onboard your Subaru. The materials and trimmings are of high quality inside the cabin. The black carpet, matt silver door panelling and silver door handles match the smart cloth seats. Dual zone climate control deals to the hot summer days no problems at all, and the blue interior illumination is striking. I love the way the switch gear is pleasantly laid out and very easy to use – in typical Subaru fashion.

Performance is always strong, smooth and flexible. After driving the AWD Subaru Liberty 2.5i, you may well question the idea of ever going back to a main stream two-wheel driver.

The current model series includes the:

  • Subaru Liberty 2.5i Sedan
