MG6

MG6

Right from the outset, MG has always been about creating affordable cars that are fun to drive.  Currently, the MG3 and MG6 cars are very well priced, good looking and practical.  They have been made in China at Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) in what is a very new Lingang car manufacturing plant, and the quality and drive are good.  You need to check the new MG6 out and take it for a drive to experience the car’s well balanced handling, nice packaging and flowing lines.  The distinctive MG6 is appealing from all angles, a great way for making your drive that much more exotic.

What makes the MG6 worth its weight in gold?  Well, let’s take a closer look.  Pleasant automotive design is evident to the potential buyer when one walks up to the MG6 and takes a walk around the body.  Bold headlights are integrated into the bonnet and bumper lines, while the bonnet lid has shapely creases to enhance the MG6’s purposeful demeanour.  A pretty crease runs underneath the windows to show off the MG6’s high waistline.  Once you walk around to the rear of the vehicle, the very elegantly finished back end of the MG6 is strikingly beautiful, in a sort of Jaguar kind of way.  For the price you pay for a new MG6, you could be forgiven for thinking that the price tag might have been well below what one would expect to pay for a new MG6 hatch.

The MG6 is a medium-sized hatchback that provides comfy seats and handy room for both legs and luggage.  What is a simple layout, the MG6 dash is very easy to use and easy on the eye.  A whole lot of luxury features are actually standard on even the base model MG6 cars, so there is no need to think that the lower pricing means that MG have skimped on the goodies.

In the UK, the MG6 is said to boast a Fast-Back design that features a very aerodynamic shape.  What the MG6 also has is a very innovative and efficient use of space.  Right up with the best in its class, the MG6 offers a 472 litres of luggage space when the rear seats are up; this opens to a very copious 1268 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.  Aiding the nice MG6 ride is the class-leading 2705 mm ultra-long wheelbase.  Out on the road you notice the ease with which the MG6 soaks up the bumps, and the steering is light around town.  Road-holding is well balanced and grippy, making the car satisfying to drive.  For the price, the MG6 is an exceptionally tidy handler, and is very crisp and controlled when pushed hard through tight bends.

Under the bonnet lies a 1.8-litre turbo engine that is fed on 91-Octane petrol.  Smooth and free-revving, the unit can whisk you from a standstill to 100 clicks in under nine seconds.  The car’s top speed is around 200 km/h.  And once you’ve become adapted to the slick gearbox-clutch harmonics, the five-speed manual car is a very swift performer that will embarrass most rivals.  You can expect around 7.9 litres/100 km to be the average amount of fuel used day-to-day.

Superbly equipped, MG6 models can boast 18-inch rims, a leather interior, electric front seats, satellite navigation, dual-zone air-conditioning and a reverse camera to name but a few of the excellent features.  Interior trim and finish is very good.  Smart and tactile materials are tightly fitted, and in the rear, three adults are accommodated with ease.  The base MG6 car will still boast a high-end sound system, with CD, MP3, iPod and USB compatibility, one-touch engine start, a power glass sunroof and electronic air conditioning – now that’s a whole lot of kit for the very light-handed price.  All MG6 models come with front and rear vented disc brakes, ABS, EBD and ESP.  Front, side and curtain airbags are also standard.

In summary, there is little to not like about the new MG6.  For the price, the MG6 has rivals that are dearer, less practical and not as accommodating or entertaining to drive.

We’ll keep you posted on the new MG6 models as they come to light.
