V-Class MPV

Mercedes Benz V-Class MPV

One of the best luxury MPVs you’ll find is the all-new Mercedes Benz V-Class MPV.  This is the ideal way of transporting people about in room, luxury and comfort.  Six, seven and eight seater V-Class seating arrangements are available, and they really treat the occupants to ride quality and comfort that is second to none.

Style does attract attention, and there is little doubt that the V-Class has it in spades.  It’s nice to see the V-Class MPV with a nose at the front which is very shapely and aerodynamic.  The front headlights are bold and attractive and the detailing and design has a real impression of prestige status.

Inside the Mercedes Benz V-Class MPV is a fully kitted leather interior that provides ambient interior lighting, a Burmester surround sound system with 15 speakers and bass reflex box for a total output of 640 watts, and a COMAND Online high resolution colour display.  Front seat occupants get loads of room and comfort with electronically adjustable seats with memory and heating functions.  In the second row, the occupants have very nicely contoured individual seats with armrests.  A third row has a traditional bench seat, still in leather and still very comfortable.  12 V sockets are standard for rear occupants as well as one in the loading compartment.  A fast 3D navigation map display is an excellent feature for easy use, high definition and quick mapping ability with plenty of additional information accessible on destinations when required.  The Mercedes Benz V-Class MPV comes with an integrated WLAN hotspot in the vehicle and a voice control system for the LINGUATRONIC audio, telephone, navigation and music search, Bluetooth interface with hands-free function, SMS/e-mail write/read function and Bluetooth audio streaming for music transfer systems.  Two SD card slots are present in the front of the cabin.

On the road, the Mercedes Benz V-Class MPV is very controlled and a predictable performer.  Grip is very good, and the handling should prove more than adequate for even many driving enthusiasts, as the body roll control is excellent.  The cruise control with a SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter is standard and it works well in all situations.  A 360° camera gives a full birds-eye view around the vehicle, ideal for reversing and parking.  Parking sensors and lane assist comes as standard along with Hill Start control and an electronic parking brake.  Paddle shifters make the van a little more fun to drive when the mood takes you.

Tinted windows add to the privacy levels inside the V-Class, so if you want to use the rear space for more than just travelling then you’ve got plenty of options here.  A fully automatic rear door makes life easy for loading and unloading the luggage area.  The side sliding doors are also full automated and electronically locked.  Cup holders for all occupants is a standard feature, and nice for relaxed weekend outing with family and friends.  Zoned climate control air-conditioning is excellent throughout the interior and even the rear seat occupants in the third row will enjoy fresh temperate air.

The V250 van is a RWD, 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission set-up with a DIRECT-SELECT selector lever and steering wheel mounted gearshift paddles.  The ECO start stop function helps to keep the van frugal on fuel.  The V 200 CDI is powered by a 100 kW and 330 Nm diesel motor.  The V 220 CDI (the same 2143 cc engine as the 200 CDI, just uprated) has 120 kW and 380 Nm of torque, and sits as the middle engine option.  Then the top of the range V 250 BlueTEC (CDI BlueTEC version of the 2143cc engine) provides 140 kW at 3800 rpm and 440 Nm of torque from as low as 1400 rpm.  The BlueTEC gets the 7G-TRONIC Plus transmission, while the other models settle for the smooth shifting 6-speed manual.  In everyday driving you should be able to get less than 8 litres/100 km – a very good result for what is a roomy, big van.  Up to 2.5 tonnes can be towed if the trailer is braked, making it a great option for the holiday maker or VIP people moving business.

All in all a very pleasing and safe van, the Mercedes Benz V-Class MPV is a premium buy and a bit more expensive than some other alternatives.  But, the saying “you get what you pay for” is very applicable here.
