Ford Territory Ghia (Facelift)

ford-territory-ghia

Ford have used the name Ghia for many years and have reserved the name for their top of the line models. A leading Italian automobile body design company, founded by Giacinto Ghia in Turin in the early nineteen hundreds, the Carozzeria Ghia was known for classic designs such as the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (1955), car designs for Chrysler and luxury models such as the Maserati Ghibli (1968). Giorgetto Giugaro had become a director at Ghia in 1965 but the company was bought by the American manufacturer Ford in 1972, resulting in designs for the Ford Capri Ghia (1974) and Escort Mark II (1975). The name Ghia has stuck with the Australian based Ford cars ever since. If you take out the letter “h” and replace it with “u” you get the Spanish word “Guia” which means guide. “Guia” is pronounced the same way as Ghia, and is appropriate for Ford’s roomy new Territory Ghia models.

The Ford Territory Ghia is sensationally well equipped, and is very classy inside the cabin. The vehicle not only looks very Smart on the outside with its attention to detail, clean lines and big alloys, but on the inside the Ford Territory Ghia RWD and AWD models boast Nudo print leather seating with Shadow design inserts. Needless to say the leather seats not only look and feel striking, the comfort levels are of a premium standard. Cashmere inserts are an option too. The AWD Ford Territory Ghia Turbo has Nudo print leather seat with shadow design inserts with the added extra of shadow stitching for a more sporty tone.

All models have copious amounts of room and boast the full seven seats. These are great vehicles for a large family. A premium dual-zone climate control system, a large colour screen and trip computer make the Ghia a comfortable tourer. Add in cruise control with steering wheel mounted controls, front and rear power windows, an automatic headlamps ON/OFF feature, power adjustable side mirrors, power adjustable pedals, an electrochromatic rear vision mirror (auto-dimming), remote keyless entry with two remote control flip keys, an adjustable driver’s seat and front passenger seat lumbar support, a six-way power driver’s seat with memory, a premium audio system with a colour screen and a six-disc in-dash CD player, a 150 watt amplifier and sub-woofer, an Alpine rear DVD system that includes a 10.2 inch screen, two wireless headphones and remote control, an optional satellite navigation system, three auxiliary power sockets and oodles of storage compartments. You are in for a treat. I have to say that the Ford territory Ghia is on my highly recommended list, especially if you are in need for plenty of room.

She goes well, too! Both the Ford Territory Ghia RWD and AWD models come with powerful 4.0 litre, DOHC, six-cylinder smooth, strong performance engines. A premium 190kW at 5250 rpm means that towing the big boat to the water’s edge is a simple task, particularly when the torque of the engine is as much as 383 Nm from as low as 2500 rpm. For those who always want more, there is the potent and quick inline-six Ford Territory Ghia Turbo. Packing a punch of 245 kW at 5250 rpm and 480 Nm at 2000 rpm, this AWD package doesn’t stick around for long. The effortless fast cruising and quick overtaking is immensely fun.

In RWD form, the Territory Ghia has a robust and smooth four-speed automatic. Slip into the AWD versions and a six-speed auto is on offer. As the big SUV is taut in its chassis design, you really don’t miss out on handling prowess when comparing the RWD and AWD versions. All models can boast sharp handling and loads of grip. Only at the limit do you notice the extra traction of the AWD, but for everyday driving the RWD is superb. When the going gets a little slippery, the supplementary traction of the AWD models does come in handy. Ride comfort is typically exemplary, and all Ford Territory Ghia models are a joy to drive, and be driven in.

Safety is important to Ford, and that is why the Ford Territory Ghia models come with an intelligent safety system that boasts dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, side curtain airbags, pyrotechnic seatbelt buckle pretensioners, a beltminder system, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, Grade Control Logic, an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a reverse sensing system with a reverse camera, central locking and childproof locks on the rear doors. There are also plenty of other amazing features onboard that help to make the journey as safe and as relaxed as possible.

Slipping into one of these is slipping into one of the class leading SUV vehicles.
