In the engine bay is a carefully designed 2.3-litre inline, four-cylinder DOHC 16V petrol engine. A healthy 199 Nm of torque sings at 4000 rpm, ready to pull hard for overtaking and carrying big loads. Built with practicality in mind, there are a number of handy features like cup holders (two in the front and two in the back), a centre console with a 2-tiered storage bin, driver and front passenger sun visors with covered illuminated vanity mirrors, a lockable glove box and deep front door bins. A 12-Volt power outlet in the cargo area means that you can power any extra electrical equipment you care to take for that family get away. A cargo net is also standard and is a very important safety feature.
To drive, the Ford Escape is well trained. The 16-inch rubber does a great job at providing good levels of grip and responsive steering. Body roll is well controlled, while the brakes do a fabulous job at pulling the SUV in from speed.
