VE Ute
Holden's new VE range marks a bold new direction for Australia's most iconic car.
Several improvements and upgrades mean it is the most radically different model in the Commodore's rich history.
The Holden VE Ute is no exception; with an all-new design, new interiors, new suspension plus upgraded V6 and V8 powerplants taking the ute to groundbreaking new heights.
Holden have blurred the line between sports car and utility vehicle even further than previous models: the body is stylish and sporty, and handling feels more like a sedan, yet it is still capable of carrying the heaviest of loads.
The entry level Omega utes can carry up to 800 kg while the lighter, sportier, range-topping utes carry closer to 500 kg.
Power is one of the main areas of focus of the new VE Utes.
The V8 engines are capable of reaching 100 km/h in under 6 seconds – astonishing for a car weighing 1.7 tonnes.
Handling is another focus, with the VE capable of negotiating turns better than any ute before it.
This is due mainly to its high levels of tyre grip and 53:47 front to rear weight balance.
The rear suspension has an almost identical layout to that of the sedan (with a few tweaks for load bearing), highlighting Holden's emphasis on creating a sports car-utility hybrid.
The interior has also been given a luxury-sports-car-orientated overhaul, with custom-coloured leather seats as well as a new centre console and steering wheel (identical to the new Commodore's impressive interior) and an extra 90 litres of interior space.
The outside is Holden's most stylish and imposing design yet.
The flared wheel arches, low slung front apron and trendy European styled headlights have given all of Holden's new models their modern, class-leading edge.
The utes have been designed to look every bit the beast, with a sleek and powerful body creating an ominous looking vehicle.
The Holden VE Ute is available in 6 variations, manual or automatic:
• The basic Omega, with a V6 engine.
• The sportier and more powerful SV6.
• The SS, with a V8 engine.
• The top of the line, amazingly powerful SSV.
The Holden VE is still everything one would expect from a ute with the added power and handling of a sports car.
