The power plants used in the Suzuki Grand Vitara are all peppy units. For under $30,000, the four-cylinder 2.0 litre petrol engine is brisk. Fuel consumption and running costs are very low for this very capable off-roading model. The V6 2.7 litre, 24-valve dual overhead cam petrol engine puts out a hefty 135 kW. The 250 Nm provides up to 1360 kg of towing capacity. Coupled to this well designed engine is a choice of either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. Sticky situations are handled without a sweat in this capable version. One of the cheapest off-roading vehicles on the market today is the Suzuki Grand Vitara DDIS. Under the bonnet of this machine is a very economical and cheap to run turbo diesel unit. The 95 kW power-plant is class leading - remembering this is only a 1.9 litre engine. The 300 Nm maximum torque figure is outstanding and is within reach from very low engine revs. Very fresh to the Grand Vitara range is the wonderfully responsive and smooth 2.4-litre VVT petrol engine. Boasting 122kW of power and 225Nm of torque, it has a very good mix of power and economy. Fuel consumption, on average, is only 8.9L/100km for the manual. The 2.4 litre engine is capable of towing a 1,850 kg braked trailer.
Inside a Suzuki Grand Vitara, there is ample storage space. The folding rear seats are split folding to floor level. You can enjoy a full leather interior that includes heated front seats, automatic climate control and a micron air-filtration system. The stereo is great and it has AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA compatibility. The XM satellite-ready 4-speaker audio system with steering wheel mounted audio controls is a real blast particularly if you like quality loud music, like I do. You can even get a 6-disc in-dash CD changer with 7-speakers that include 2 tweeters and 1 subwoofer. Other features include power windows and doors, cruise control, auxiliary power outlets, a retractable cargo cover, below deck cargo storage, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, as well as a power tilt-and-slide sunroof. There is even an optional HomeLink® wireless control system to operate your garage door and other remote items. One ingenious article is the Suzuki SmartPass feature which is built into the keyless entry. No more pressing buttons to unlock or start your vehicle; the SmartPass automatically unlocks your doors without you touching the remote.
Safety items on the Suzuki Grand Vitara include Anti-lock brakes, dual stage driver and passenger front and side curtain airbags, plus rear seat curtain airbags. Daytime running lights, a rear child seat LATCH system, rear door child safety locks and a tire pressure monitoring system are all provided too.
