The Subaru Outback comes with a choice of engines. The 2.5 litre single overhead cam 16-valve Boxer engine is petrol and is a grunty performer. When I drove one of these, I found it had plenty of power to get the job done. The 2.5i and 2.5i Premium models can be linked to a five-speed manual or four-speed auto. The powerful 3.0 litre dual overhead cam 24-valve 6-cylinder petrol engine is a very swift performer. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time falls inside the eight second bracket for the five-speed auto. There are two automatic gearboxes on offer. The 4-speed adaptive direct control automatic with SPORTSHIFT manual control sits in the 2.5i, and there is the 5-speed adaptive direct control automatic with SPORTSHIFT inside the 3.0R models.
The Subaru Outback is good looking and elegant on the outside, and voluptuous and comfortable on the inside. A 6-disc CD system with 6-speaker premium sound tickles the ears of the lucky Outback occupants. The onboard computer keeps the driver informed of the trips progress. Audio controls are also located on the steering wheel. Cruise control makes for an economical and relaxing drive. Electric windows, air-conditioning and leather seats come as part of the package. Subaru seats are comfortable, and their lumbar support is excellent for the long haul. You can opt to have both front seats heated and electrically adjustable. Classy is the word that comes to mind for describing an Outback interior. The workmanship is extremely high, and the interior feels solid and long-lasting. The Outback instrumentation is simple to use and ergonomically sound. Inside the Outback, you are pampered, so long weekend getaways are a breeze inside this vehicle. With the extra ground clearance under the Outback models, compared with the Liberty vehicles, you have a great vehicle for going to the ski fields and tackling harsh outback roads. Slippery paddocks and tracks are no problem either.
Subaru's all-wheel drive system tops the list for safety. Additional safety features include a traction control system, vehicle dynamic control, a tire pressure monitoring system, dual driver and passenger front and side curtain airbags and a ring-shaped reinforced body structure that is designed to absorb a high-speed crash.
