With a 3.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine, there is certainly no shortage of power. The ML320 has, in fact, quite incredible performance that is delivered evenly throughout the long and flat torque curve. The massive 510 Nm of torque available means that you can be fully loaded and pulling your caravan or boat with complete ease. The engine applies the incredible power output via a strong and refined 7-speed electronicallly controlled automatic transmission with a direct shifter that is mounted on the steering wheel providing the selection of Park, Reverse, Neutral or Drive. There is also a Driver Adaptive Program that adjusts shift points to the driver's current driving style. An off-road driving programme automatically raises shift points gearing the engine and transmission for off-road travel. With a permanent 4-MATIC 4-wheel drive that has 50/50 front/rear torque split to provide the utmost in traction, and the one-button off-road driving programme that simultaneously adjusts the traction system and antilock brakes, along with the engine and transmission to provide control, you will experience traction like you've never experienced before. The ML320 also provides ESP or Electronic Stability Programme which monitors and adjusts each wheel's speed and contact with the road to ensure you have control over almost all situations.
The Mercedes-Benz ML320 doesn't skimp on interior comforts either. Dual-zone automatic climate controls mean the passengers in the rear don't get second best for heat or cooling. An electrostatic dust and pollen filter is also standard. There is a multifunction steering wheel which provides at-fingertip controls for the audio system or the optional phone or multifunction display. The steering wheel is also four-way adjustable (tilt/telescoping). The Modular COMMAND and cockpit management and data system integrates the audio system with an optional multi-disk changer, satellite radio, iPod® or other MP3 player. The whole system is fiber-optic which offers precise meshing between all the components. The Tele Aid system even uses GPS satellites plus a cellular link to provide 24 hour direct assistance for emergencies and other functions. Sitting in eight-way power adjustable front seats with adjustable lumbar support offers exceptional comfort for those long rides. The rear seats are 60/40 split to handle large bulky items.
Safety doesn't take a back seat with the Mercedes-Benz ML320. With adaptive dual-stage front air bags, rear side airbags and window curtain airbags as well as an Integrated Restraint System, all occupants are protected from all directions in the event of a collision. Combine this with the Electronic Stability Programme, Antilock Brakes and Traction Control, and you have one supremely solid and safe Mercedes-Benz ML320. What a performer!
